Can Shooter Request Changing the Ball Colors When Opponent or Ref is Racking?

This sometimes comes up for a steep angle break shot when the break ball is located quite close to the stack, when the balls are being racked by the opponent or ref. Is it permissible to request the racker to switch ball colors in the rack so that the background for the edge of your break ball...

Which Way Do You Play This Shot?

Confirming what I said - rolling forward is easier to control the speed vs drawing back. However, many are just more comfortable with outside spin as opposed to inside spin, if they have a choice.

    Houston legends

I recall a number of rooms in Houston 20+ years ago largely consisted of oversized 8-foot tables, which you’d think is not conducive of grooming the very top level players? Has that changed since then?

Which Way Do You Play This Shot?

When I take your closer look at the diagram and the angle on the 2 ball shot, there is a chance the cue ball is just a little too far off the end cushion and too much angle to play the high inside shot, which with that running spin on the cue ball off the side cushion could potentially bring the...

Which Way Do You Play This Shot?

Either option is doable. Most players may have a preference between using low outside spin or high inside spin, so whichever one you feel more comfortable using to pocket the ball and getting to the proper positioning zone is likely what you should choose. In this case, a skilled player should...

Stories about the first time talent was recognized?

Yes, no question that Tyler would have been one of the top US players of his generation, possibly even challenging SVB. I saw him play in three consecutive BCA Junior nationals when my son was also competing in it. He made the game look so easy and was clearly a level above all the other top...

Pool jersey's, love 'em or hate 'em..??

To me, they are quite tacky, kind of like an amateur golfer who has their name on their golf bag like the pros do.

Stories about the first time talent was recognized?

Yeah, that’s often the way it works. Those that it comes so easy to don’t have the passion / drive, whereas those that put in the long hours and would give anything to play well just don’t have that gift.

Coming back off a long layoff is TOUGH

Yes, I hate to admit that I felt as good about my 28 ball run the other night as I did a 56 ball run 10-15 years ago. We have to learn to adjust our expectations as we age, otherwise it is just too depressing and we might as well quit playing.

Stories about the first time talent was recognized?

We currently have a high school young man who comes in and plays with his buddies, all of whom are likely athletic high school football/basketball/baseball players. They are all bangers except for him. I’ve watched him and this kid has got it including near perfect natural alignment and...

Coming back off a long layoff is TOUGH

There may be rare exceptions, but we must face the fact that if you are in your 60s or 70s and you’ve played pool your entire life, you will never play like you did decades ago, except for very brief spurts. 20 years ago (in my 40s) in a 3 hour straight pool solo practice session I could always...

    Buddy Hall

Hopefully the center where he’s at has a pool table - that would be a real treat for the other residents there to play with him / watch him play! If they don’t have one, they should definitely get one!

    Advice on Buying First Table

If $3,500 is your max budget, assuming you have a big enough room for a 9 foot table and you are patient enough to shop around, that should allow you to find a used 9’ Brunswick Gold Crown model for around $2k and have enough $ left for a reputable mechanic to break it down, move it and set it...

Which Variable Is the Cause of Most Missed Shots

I’d have to disagree with your statement. You have to feel comfortable pocketing balls using all types and amounts of spins in order to be a strong position player.

Anyone else here like to use drag shots?

I like to use it when I need to kill the cue ball off a cushion when I have too much angle on the shot to be able to do so even if I slow roll the ball.

Which Variable Is the Cause of Most Missed Shots

For a relatively experienced player, assuming your aim is correct and your stroke is straight, in your opinion, which of the 3 variable miscalculations causes the most missed shots when applying spin to the Cue Ball? 1) Misjudging Cue Ball Squirt / Deflection? 2) Misjudging Cue Ball Swerve? 3)...

    Why do tables play different?

Cushions - profile, brand and nose height above the table surface are likely the biggest reasons why tables play differently. Pocket specs and cloth would also affect how a table plays.
