    Aiming very close cuts

Your second point is a big one yes. Apart from draw being harder to control speed wise and less "natural", having a less elevated cue is almost always a benefit in shotmaking percentage, due to less swerve, a more consistent stance and it being easier to see the shot.

ACCELERATE VS CONSTANT SPEED THRU THE CUE BALL

I'd say a simple explanation for why accelerating is generally better, is that a truly constant speed requires more muscle effort than an accelerating one. If you just freely move your hand anywhere right now as an example, it starts accelerating and ends deccelerating. Doing the same action in...

    Aiming very close cuts

Did he explain the reason behind this being helpful?

Adjusting aim when down on the shot without losing accuracy in alignment

Bridge length or head distance from the shot doesn't matter for this method to work. If you move your head 1cm to the left, it is indeed a bigger change to the shot line the closer your head is to the bridge or the shorter the bridge is, but if your cue touches your chin as is necessary for the...

How would you play this 9ball shot?

Depending on the exact angle I have, I'd either play the same safe as Double-Dave, or follow instead of draw and shoot it a bit thicker, achieving the same thing (distance with no direct pot and possibly getting CB behind 9) with a more natural shot. Hard to judge the exact angle and feel of...

Utilizing peripheral vision during the final stroke

This is a good point. There are exceptions where I deliberately look at CB last, when I know that getting the right hit is more difficult than normal, such as jump shots, masse shots or super short strokes when I have to avoid a double hit. One reason that I believe it's best to not look at CB...

Utilizing peripheral vision during the final stroke

I understand where you're coming from. My idea for not focusing on the CB on delivery at all, is that by the time the backhand is paused and I'm ready to pull the trigger, the cue ideally just has to make a straight motion forward, whatever direction it's pointing at, so the ideal CB contact...

Utilizing peripheral vision during the final stroke

Not sure what is causing the negative attitude? I am focusing on one part of the shot process, found something that works for me, shared it, explained why I think it helps me, and asked if others have any opinions about this or similar things. Obviously things become intuitive and you can...

Utilizing peripheral vision during the final stroke

There's the classic debate of whether you should you look at CB or OB last, when pulling the trigger. On top of that, some people who look at the OB last stare at their desired contact point, while some just generally look at the OB as a whole. I have found that, for me, I get the best results...

    Aiming very close cuts

How so? It's a painfully slow method (anywhere from 10 to 40 seconds depending on how carefully you do it), and due to that it would be stupid to use it for most shots, sure, but it can help sometimes in a match if there's an especially tough close cut shot and you want to increase the odds of...

3-Fouling a Beginner Level Player in a Weekly Handicap Tournament?

In my opinion, complaining about getting 3-fouled is like complaining about trying an early 9-ball. Or losing to an opening trap in chess. Anything within the rules of any game, that isn't unsportsmanlike (such as deliberate extremely slow play to shark your opponent), should be allowed and...

Most common positional shots in rotation games, that require extreme side?

Sorry, I think either I'm misunderstanding your post or you are misunderstanding my question. Can you elaborate on what part of my post(s) this is a reply to? To elaborate my original point, I answered to you asking what I mean with extreme side, and tried to say, that for me, extreme side is...

    Aiming very close cuts

For that method, you don't need the whole table, I just have 10 numbers memorized at equal distances between sin 0 and sin 90, which is enough, since you can interpolate the rest with good accuracy (have to be roughly aware of the direction and steepness of the "curve"), being off in the result...

Most common positional shots in rotation games, that require extreme side?

Good ideas, thanks. Can you elaborate on the usefulness/practicality of using outside to help make extreme cuts? I mean, I understand the theory of using spin-induced throw so you don't have to aim so thin, which I guess in theory makes it easier, but for super thin cuts you typically shoot...

Most common positional shots in rotation games, that require extreme side?

Thanks! This makes sense and I guess I knew it on some level but just haven't generalized it like that in my mind.

Most common positional shots in rotation games, that require extreme side?

Thanks, the reason I asked this was that it's extremely rare that I use more than 1 tip of side in games for normal shots (e.g. shots where you pot an OB normally and play position, so not counting kicks, swerves etc.), so I was curious if its more a matter of me not being aware of some of the...

Most common positional shots in rotation games, that require extreme side?

This is a good example, thanks. I just set that layout up and tried it, and I could still make it with 1tip of left and maximum high, but moving the cueball slightly more to the left makes it behave as you wanted probably, where just using 1tip of left + max high just doesnt change your angle...

Most common positional shots in rotation games, that require extreme side?

Anything that can't be done with 0-1 tips of side. So whether its up or down or middle if its horizontally more than 1 full tips width away from center I'd start to call that extreme, since 99%+ of shots I play in the 0-1 tip range.

Most common positional shots in rotation games, that require extreme side?

Can you give me some example? I understand the concept but am having a hard time coming up with examples that are common and not the kind of shots that come up once in few months. In my experience, almost every time when I think I might need extreme side to force an angle, I end up being able to...

Most common positional shots in rotation games, that require extreme side?

I'm having a hard time figuring out which are some of the most common types of situations in rotation games where you need more than 1 tip of side to play position to the next ball. I can come up with some rarer occurances where a blocker causes you to need even more angle off a rail than is...
