Did Mark Wilson finally kill "aiming systems" ?

As for the main topic of this thread, I agree with his main premise. Obviously there aren't only "two differences" between an amateur and a pro, but his point stands. "He also pointed out that if you are an experienced pool player, you very rarely miss shots because of your aim. You miss shots...

DRAW VS. FOLLOW Position Play Examples … Follow is not Always Better

Good stuff. Very useful for beginners and intermediate level players.

Did Mark Wilson finally kill "aiming systems" ?

For all I know, this could very well be true for a large amount of people with different techniques, but as someone whose stroke is built on the core idea of a dead-straight, simple muscle movement that is always in the same direction relative to my stance, as long as I'm looking roughly near...

    Simple aiming system

As bbb was trying to say, cutting into the wrong side of the pocket is not comparable to cutting into the correct side by a wrong amount. Obviously people will more commonly miss into B than C in your image due to B being just a thinner hit on the correct side, but C being in the completely...

    Aiming BIH 9-ball combos

This is good to keep in mind. When faced with such shots, apart from just requiring about 5x more precise aim, there's also the added difficulty from actually judging where to aim, keeping that aim-point, compensating for the spin-induced(?) throw into the 2nd OB from the cut angle of the combo...

    Aiming BIH 9-ball combos

I see, that is a good way. I sometimes do the same. What about for actually placing the CB (with BIH) to be millimeter perfect on the ideal line, instead of slightly on either side, do you have any tricks for that?

    Aiming BIH 9-ball combos

Does anyone have any insights into how to make BIH combos more effectively? If there is a semi-long dead-straight or almost straight 1->9 combo available (e.g. 9-ball 1.5 diamonds from the corner pocket, 1-ball 1.5 diamonds from the 9-ball), it is suprisingly tricky to sight and place the CB on...

    Speed / Position drills?

My favourite is to pick some OB location and CB location, preferably something you have trouble with, then place some small paper pieces on the table to indicate a square area (I do 1x1 diamond in size) that you must land the CB inside of. Mark the CB and OB however you want, I use chalk marks...

    Measure Eleventy Times

As good as you allow it to be, based on your amount of experience, both in the game as a whole and in trusting your subconscious. Subconscious aiming is not something that can be clearly defined, since everyone has different specifics when it comes to how they do it and what the routine consists...

    Measure Eleventy Times

Yeah. It has been hard work to be able to trust my instincts in aiming. The biggest factors among the journey for me have been to straighten out my stroke and make it as automatic as possible (same muscle motion no matter the cut angle), and to focus on visualizing the entire shot at once...

    Measure Eleventy Times

My favourite is to visualize the CB path, then ask my subconscious to aim for the OB to go into the pocket by standing wherever the CB-OB relationship feels right, and trust that. Kind of a small, quick snappy motion with the upper body/head, with the end result being the correct line. Or in...

Is your best game one you actually don't prefer?

I'd say my biggest strength is 9-ball, simply because I've played it the most and therefore have the most experience with it. But one pocket and pretty much all speciality games are my favourite to play (banks, carom games, pretty much any custom games made up on the spot). Variety is key. For...

Wanting to speed up my game, what to focus on?

I do get available options intuitively very fast, but the issue is selecting the best one among them. Often the best general idea is clear in a second, but selecting the nuances to maximize the percentages of running out takes that extra 5 seconds. Sure, I could just not care about those...

Wanting to speed up my game, what to focus on?

This is what I suspect as well. I just don't know how to speed it up without compromising the level of play, if, for example, I try to just go with the instinct in 3-4 seconds max, I simply pick weaker shots/patterns, and end up with suboptimal percentages.

Wanting to speed up my game, what to focus on?

This is the goal. I just don't know how to get there, since no matter how fast I play in practice, it feels like my speed in competitions naturally ends up being as fast as I can make it without playing worse. Will think about it, thanks.

Wanting to speed up my game, what to focus on?

The way I see my speed is that, the easiest shots take too long on average. Taking more time on tricky shots is fine, but spending a minimum of 15 seconds on even the easiest of shots (ignoring absolute no-brainers e.g. 9-ball hanging in the pocket with CB next to it) adds up in the long run. I...

Wanting to speed up my game, what to focus on?

I often do this type of open-rack shooting with a faster PSR tempo near the start of my practice routines, but it doesn't really translate over to real games. There's no penalty for failing, there's no intricate positional play to consider, and you get to stay in that fast rhythm with no pauses...

Wanting to speed up my game, what to focus on?

(Everything mentioned in this post is about 9-ball or 10-ball) Alright so, I have played for 3-4 years and am a relatively slow player, around 600-650 fargo, have already sped up my game somewhat just by gaining more experience and confidence, but I still feel like speeding up a bit would...

What's your estimated fargo rating if you beat 9 ball ghost more often than not?

I don't have a fargo, but I'd guess it was somewhere between 600 and 650. I can beat 650-700s in semi-long races (e.g. 9-ball to 7 wins) quite often, even though I lose the majority of the time, whereas I win against 550-600s more often than not. In 9-ball, I have ran a 6-pack once (in...

Pool? If you can only play one game?

One pocket rotation. 15 balls in order, all in the same pocket. Would be something to do for the rest of my life trying to run out even once.
