Source for dowels to use as cores

My local woodshop closed it's doors yesterday and my local woodcraft and rocklers don't carry much. Bellforest also has very little. I'm looking for a good source of dowels in maple or even better, hickory, in 1" x 36" size. If anyone has a good place to shop, I'd appreciate a PM. TIA.

    Joint Collar On New J/B

I'm the same. I'm not in business, don't have the experience to teach, and simply enjoy this as a hobby. With that said, I've spent nearly $10K on my new hobby in the short 18 months I've been pursuing this and can easily see a path towards another $10k+ if I decide to go to a higher level...

    Joint Collar On New J/B

LOL .. and funny how Slim123 has somehow gone silent. Perhaps I should follow your advice and shut off the private conversation option as well.

    Joint Collar On New J/B

I've been working on cues most all day today, and ironically I've threaded six butts and joints today along with five conversions from linen to leather wraps.

Birch dowel for a core - turns like crap..?

John - is the hickory you've been able to get at hardwood stores typically dry, or do you need to cut it down in stages and follow the typical process of turn and wait?

    Joint Collar On New J/B

What part of this don't you understand? Run the die all the way down and then turn the end round. Simple!

    Joint Collar On New J/B

Look closely at post #11, it shows you all you need to know. You don't tap the tennon to accept a threaded joint sleeve.

    Joint Collar On New J/B

Yes, I have a thread mill setup on my lathe. You could actually do it with a tap and die, it would just be a little more of a PITA

    Adding Backpack straps

Backpack straps sound like a good idea. I've been trying to figure out a more comfortable (and safe) way to transport my 4x8 on my motorcycle.

    Joint Collar On New J/B

Per the forum rules, I am not a professional cue maker so I'll let someone who is answer the question, should they choose to do so. I know how I do it, it's pretty simple.

    Joint Collar On New J/B

If so, that could have been prevented by not taking the threads all the way to the end and ending in a round tenon instead of threads.

WTB Used Ball Cleaning Machine (Found one)

I have a Clean Gleam 8-Pocket that is about a year old that I would be willing to part with. PM me if interested.

    Joint Collar On New J/B

I'm a bit OCD about stuff like that and think that lopsided look would bother me over time, especially on a new cue. Just my two cents.

WTB: Amboyna Burl with 4, 5, or 6 point ebony cue (example inside)

PM sent, I've got a full matching set from the same builder for sale. Butt, 3 playing shafts, 1 break/jump shaft, jump handle, JPs for all of it. Also have a Revo shaft but I'm fine keeping that out of the deal. If interested, just PM me.

How much does it cost to turn a linen-wrapped cue to wrapless?

If you only took off the wrap, sanded, and stained it, how did you deal with the wrap channel?

Is it possible to convert a linen-wrapped cue to wrapless?

That would be my suggestion as well. Good call.

No CNC, what is the best way to get a logo on the butt, under the finish?

Perfect, thanks. I didn't know that Todd sold those things.
