I agree with you Mike , my Scott Erwin cue has matching jp's as the wood used for the cue and I think they just complete the look and set it apart from the rest .

When I first seen joint protectors was in the early 1990's when I got a McDermott pool cue a friend at the time suggested that I get some joint protectors for the above mentioned reasons , I'm glad I did , in all honesty I don't have them for all my pool cues but I do for those I use the most .

Darn right it is , I feel jp's are cheap insurance for you're pool cue , in other words you put your cue or cues in a nice case to protect it or them why not take it a step further .
