    Joint Pin Experiment

Great feedback. I don't recall ever seeing that pin...could easily be that I saw it in the distant past and it stuck in my subconscious. I'm with you, I see no reason that it should be quieter in normal use and have noticed no difference. I would not make a similar claim without empirical...

    Joint Pin Experiment

Thanks! That is mainly the goal, I'm not a believer that the joint pin is a make-or-break deal on a cue, but I hate seeing things like Mezz and their wavy joint that requires a $300 tap.

    Joint Pin Experiment

Thanks for the well-thought response. We all know that any of the usual suspect threads hold a cue together. I love the piloted barrel on the 3/8-10 modified and in case I wasn't clear, I do use that pin a lot. Just to be clear, the insert in the shaft is glued in and 1.75". The pin only...

Lesser penalty than BIH for fouling?

What they really mean is that it keeps the one guy who can run two balls from winning every game. These type of gaff games are kinda the perfect handicappers for low level players. When I was a lad, it was common for us to play bank 8 last pocket. We pretty much figured out that gaffing the...

Sorry, it took me a while to respond to this, I hate when people make comments like that about themselves. It is obvious from your posts that you are intelligent enough to learn about what I've posted if it were important enough to you (and I'm definitely not saying that it should be). I've...

They called the grill a 'horse collar'. Some described it as a toilet seat. I think it looks a little more anatomical than that, but my mind lives in the gutter...the glorious, glorious gutter.

The guy has the world view of a twelve year old. I read his posts for the amusement factor. As he is so proud of stating (like a petulant tweener), he flicked an iggy on me and can't see my posts.

Lambros pins appear to be a 60deg thread form, why would I have a problem with that? The bevel seat is a great idea, with the caveat that it appears to leave a sharp edge on the butt joint collar, which may be prone to damage. What I have a problem with is that his website claims more cueball...

The connecting screw is 0.45oz.. The inserts are a total of 0.53oz., with the butt insert being slightly heavier. Total joint weight as prototyped is effectively 1oz..

Ideally, it would be across the entire face. The effectiveness of the ability of the joint faces to resolve bending forces is greater further out on the diameter of the faces. It can be approximated by a simple lever calculation. So, I would say that the joint collars are doing a lot of the...

Prototype is unthreaded. My calculations show that decent epoxy is sufficient for the shear load and the lengths should minimize any problems. The shaft insert is 1.75", the butt insert is over 3" to ensure separation of stress risers.

Gets tighter with every turn...that is actually reducing the effectiveness of the purpose of a screw, which is to provide a clamping force at the joint.

I simply meant that it made me laugh, I'm sure you've read my rants about shafts taking a lot of effort on the pin. 99% is an awful high number, I appreciate it. Have a great evening!

I'll agree on the 60" dowel. I'll also say that most 2-piece cues have the primary node very close to midway, partially due to the heavy pin.

Did you know that 'literally' now also means 'strongly figuratively'? So, there is literally no word for 'literally' anymore.

The primary node is not usually midway, unless you have symmetry, uniformity, or random happenstance (or great design). The rest I agree on.
