Your thoughts on outrageous cue prices

I'm absolutely open minded. If someone shows me a valid scientific test that even comes close to showing that a wavy pin is better at holding two pieces together than a 60degree v-thread, I'll read through it, and study it. Then I will likely show them where they failed. The truth, the...

    Joint Pin Experiment

As most are probably aware, I hate bastard threads. I don't care so much about different pitches, but prefer standard 60deg thread forms. I'm okay with DZ's modified pin, but I really don't think it offers anything that a standard thread does. I have wrestled with posting this, but here goes...

Your thoughts on outrageous cue prices

You have no way of knowing whether the joint is what causes the cue to feel solid or some other part of the construction. You also have no proof that the cues were more solid, you just, 'feel' that they are. Unless you actually do scientific testing on the same cue with different joints, I...

Your thoughts on outrageous cue prices

All of mezz's proprietary joints are marketing bullshit that add nothing of value.

    3/8 by 10 pin

Directly and accurately measuring minor diameter of threads with only calipers is not possible. By definition, the calipers will be angled to get in the root of the threads, and the thread is likely sharper than the caliper. A three-wire measurement and calculation is required.

    Funny pic/gif thread...

I guess the bigger question is: Is there any 'god' that you would actually want to be friends with? The ones who shape shifted to rape women? The ones who were jealous of skilled or beautiful mortals? The ones who demanded blood sacrifices? The one who banished his favorite angel to hell...

Edit: Nevermind. It was a stupid question about a damaged ferrule. Thanks for replies.

The ferrule is chipped, who knows why. Could be from a tip getting too thin, could be from a dull cutter when the pad was replaced. No, the ferrule cannot be fixed without removal. The ferrule is also poorly attached to the shaft (see gap below ferrule). Your repair person will likely have...

    Shuriken cue

Why would you do that? What was your goal in digging the foam out? Was the cue too light? Did it play badly? Before your question can be answered adequately, we need to know what you want for the end product. There are a myriad of solutions. You could fill with foam, and be right back to...

CF shaft build, insert thread question

Good stuff. I teetotaled several years ago, so now it's, 'Hold my tea'. Doesn't stop me from doing stupid stuff...

CF shaft build, insert thread question

I'm reading this as the shaft is simply unscrewing from the butt, not that the insert or pin is actually coming out. Again, I hadn't considered that possibility.

CF shaft build, insert thread question

Hmmm. Hadn't considered an adhesive issue. Do you have a theory?

CF shaft build, insert thread question

I shouldn't do this, but my inner Don Quixote is egging me on. I'll preface that in case you didn't know, it is no secret that I think all forms of radial thread pins are the biggest, saddest joke in the cue industry. A properly designed threaded joint (construction screws aside, but our cue...

No, his theory works out. If there are 100 steps in every cue, and you can do 1 step a day on eight different cues, on day 100 you will put out 8 cues. Day 101, eight cues. Day 175, eight cues. It's the same theory as pulse-line or parallel line assembly. The problems are: You need...

If his breath were bated for three years, he surely suffered a mental breakdown, and I doubt that they allow cuemaking in the St. James Infirmary.

You must think that line is really clever. It isn't. It sounds like something a seven year old heard his graaaampaaaah say, and he repeats it any chance he gets.

    2025 Southwest Cues

Woo-hoo, if anyone wants to buy a cue from a blowhard who proves his ignorance and insinuates that the only reason to not buy a $10k cue is due to being a poverty-stricken schlub, I'm sure they know where to look now. Mission accomplished, you are allowed to stop posting.

I hope I didn't insult you, just the first thing that came to mind. It's beautiful otherwise, and sometimes little things add character that beauty can't.

I wouldn't have accepted it. Looks too much like the mali long butt caps from the eighties.
