    Sharp points???

Yes. I own.run a pantograph because i am too old & too dumb to learn cnc. :( It is not used for points. It is used for inlays, as shooting arts described. Also engraved lettering. My uses for pantograph are not cues (I make FS sneakies, mostly & don't like inlaid cues) Use my 3D Gorton to...

    BEST GLUE FOR FERRULE INSTALLATION

It's not just political, it's experience, a lot of it. To cut to the bottom line, IF your machining is top notch, and the wood surfaces well prepared (see National Forest Products Lab test data and recommendations for gluing wood surfaces) typical wood glues including "yellow" glues can yield a...

    Sharp points???

Many of the early BBC cues were hand spliced. Americans always did it the hard way, though. Full splice, 4 prong. GB cue makers never seemed to develop the knack and went with the easier common woodworking joint known as a "fishmouth" joint outside the billiards specific world. From the BBC...

    BUMPER VS BUMPERLESS

Aha! Used to mil a fair amount of phenolic for machine parts and for long wearing forms for tracer apps. But thinking back, most of it is/was probably linen. The good old stuff, lol. Have used carbide, but mostly HSS. More recently, sometimes using canvas for cues because i like the visual...

? meaning? I get the pretty part. What say did the mill have in the conversation? Wasn't that a lathe job anyway? :) smt

As per my note further up, based on his description, i believe he is referencing flitch beams. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flitch_beam We used them in garages in tract homes. For many construction problems, they are neither cheaper nor easier, except that most carpenters can relate to them...

Finishing the cue may be the end of me

Me, too! As a lifelong pro-woodwhacker, finishing is the bugaboo of all wood manufacturing. Main reason i focused on millwork (instead of, say, kitchens). Main reason i only make cues for self and insistent friends or well acquainted pool associates who understand i will only do french polish...

Table Information Requested - early 1900's Susser Brothers 10'x5'

Quality T-rails tables can be set up to play as well as any & the rails can be as solid. Witness snooker tables, e.g. The difference is that T-rails can be more difficult to set up well. Consider how the rail bolts into the edge of the slate - there is no leeway to adjust 2 adjacent rails along...

🌶 Paul Dayton 4 Points Amarilo into Ebony 🌶

Love that color scheme! reminds me of 1920/s - 1930's race machine paint jobs. Or pre-war piper J3 cub Was just looking at pics of a small VW formula plane last night, with that scheme. Beautiful, simply elegant cue!! smt

I am not a tech and don't know how to set a table up, especially don't know anything about the rails, really. That said, to answer your question, a small time table builder & table dealer sought me out during the early 1980's to make parts & tools for him. My regret, often expressed on here...

Are you trying to illustrate a flitch plate? Your pic does not really show what i think you are trying to demonstrate - a wide piece of relatively thin flat steel sandwiched between 2 (or more) 2 x 12's. There is usually a call-out on the plans for the engineered bolt schedule. Starting in...

Practically speaking, & thinking as a woodworker i agree. A wood frame is never going to be perfect over time, but it has some excellent perhaps overlooked benefits in the modern era, including decent stability with changing humidity within typical values in a human living space; and excellent...

No. I have done commercial stuff with scraping, and in the past scraped some of the products made & sold over the years. Steel fixture sleds for small wood shapers was one product, some 35 yrs ago or so. Then i finally got a surface grinder, and scraped that back into shape to use instead...

Can you FREEZE A push in rubber bumper, to

I wonder if that might be the ultimate? Because if you have a pad center for the TS, it can be brought up against the outside end for even more support? For that purpose, even a flat/round piece of say phenolic with a dimple, for a regular pointy ball bearing center, would work. Big advantage...

Oh, I'm all about jigs, fixtures, gages, etc - seldom saw a gadget that didn't intrigue me at some level. I believe you can make that work, probably even work "well". However, when it's all done, how do you prove it? roll some balls around? Check a few places with levels? Did it save time? Not...

Can you FREEZE A push in rubber bumper, to

I tried that so long ago don't remember what the rubber application was, but it was useless AFA a home freezer. Reason i went to surface grinder, Usually when that is mentioned on machinist sites, they mean "with liquid nitrogen". Can't recall if i ever tried with dry ice - do remember...

When i started buying rudimentary machine tools in the early 80's, what was available (before ebay and C-list) was either near-new price good machines or high-priced junk, pretty much only from dealers. Or lower priced machines at auction that were worn enough even the dealers did not want...

Keep in mind that the world is made of rubber. Slate bends/sags, that is why it requires practiced table techs to set up & shim. Geoff's analyses of level vs SE is a very good reference on the subject. That is, either method can work, which is more practical, which is more cost effective, etc...

Can you FREEZE A push in rubber bumper, to

I set them up in a cheap import spindex, in a collet, and reduce them on a surface grinder. Any grinder would work, so long as you can get a spindex clamped or mounted, and a way to "nudge" it toward the wheel with some control. I use mist coolant running obviously wet, and you can't hog or it...
