Which Way Do You Play This Shot?

I’d go in 100% and fire away to kick it in off the long rail. I don’t trust myself to pull off a finesse safety and if I’m going to lose the game, I’ll at least know that I gave myself a chance.

    New Gold Crown

when Johnny opened his new place and had 2 VIs, I played on them the first week they were set up. No thanks. Was not enjoyable at all. Balls kept getting hung up in the rails but I’m sure that was an install issue. It was a far, far cry from a GCIV. Not even close.

Which Variable Is the Cause of Most Missed Shots

Fewer places seem to care about keeping balls and tables as clean as they used to. Dirty table and balls, long shot that needs to be hit hard or soft… my kryptonite.

    Anyone heard from ChrisinNC?

We are all only a few steps away from complete financial ruin. Some people do a better job at greasing the skids, however. One would typically consider Boone and Asheville N.C. safe bets. Guess not. This is a good reminder that safety and security are mere illusion. In a moment the elements...

How do you dress or appear at a pool hall?

Jeans and a tshirt, shorts and a t shirt. Boots, tennis shoes or flops. T shirt normally in decent shape. Usually something fishing related. Dress Depends on the room and the weather.

    Looking for Gold Crown

IV was the peak of the GC mountain. I’ve played both a 5 and a 6 before, but I don’t know. Maybe just nostalgia, I prefer the IV. When I build my next game room, it’s a black GCIV with high polished legs and corner castings. 4 3/4” pockets, GC style light painted black with a led panel.

Info from Oscar for all the Brunswick lovers out there.

To me, there’s still nothing like a GCIV

The smaller pockets are helping the weak players, its very deep and people don't see it.

A physics teacher I had once said, “if you’re having a difficult time with a concept, take it to an extreme value and it usually becomes more clear.” Have Filler play a drunk biker broad who can hardly make a ball… and put her on a 3” pocket table. I promise you that chick isn’t making a ball...

    Whitten cue rattle

I had a Murnack case years ago that I got used. Beautiful exterior but the cues just rattled around. I used it for storage and eventually sold it. My older instroke, is much nicer and the leather is buttery soft with perfect tooling. It and my it’s George cases were 10x the case that Murnack...

    GC4 vs GC3

I’ve had a sport king and 2 anniversaries. GC 4 is still my fav table of all time.

Good practice techniques for a beginner

I personally prefer getting down lower on a shot as opposed to being more upright with my stance. Some people prefer more upright. With bending over further, your stance has to widen, or it becomes more unstable. Your lower back muscles will have to work much harder to try to keep you still...

Good practice techniques for a beginner

    1. concentrate on keeping your left shoulder (if you shoot righty) DEAD still especially on the backwards to forwards transition of the cue. ANY movement there immediately alters your aim but it’s already too late. You’re already coming through with the stroke. Popping up (at least for me) is my...

    Bergman vs. Bustamante?

True, I can see it. I guess the part I was thinking of is his style of play. Powerful. Intimidating. He’s still got it.

    Bergman vs. Bustamante?

Does Bustamante not age at all or is it just me?

    Nick Varner

The American Efren. He’s never out of a match regardless of the score. A truly entertaining man to watch.

    Aiming for power draw

Getting the shaft turned down to about 12mm and putting a good tip, like a Kamui, helps immensely. To me, it’s much easier to contact low without miscueing this way. Anything less than 12mm feels a little too thin to me. I use preflag masters but I’m sure that’s more psychological than anything...

    How to combat slow players?

Use his slow game shark bs against him. Learn to play even slower than he does. Take 30 seconds to get up from the chair and act like you’re not even paying attention to him or the match. It’s about as dirty as it gets and I abhor sharking, but it gets the point across.

your paying too much for cues

$300 or less, get a McDermott. You’ll get a cue that is well made and plays well. It won’t go up in value, but neither will anything else at that price point…. Unless you find a Gus at an estate sale or something.

your paying too much for cues

“ I have no idea what made it hit so good” That’s pretty much it. I haven’t changed the taper or had it turned down. I break with it. I’ll even take it in places tied together with a rubber band if I don’t want the case getting smokey.
