How to Play 9-Ball - The “Official Rules” of Pool

The 'Forceful' break is nonsense and should never be used. I've watched top players (Strickland, Van Boening) on YouTube shatter the rack and lose their turn because of that ridiculous rule.

Wanted to buy ... WilleeCue ...

I have a 'Willie' cue but I really don't want to part with it. Oh, wait a minute...wrong 'Willie'. Nevermind.

What’s your definition of “clean” balls? This video raises questions…

I used to practice at a local college that had 6 Gold Crowns. The same balls had been used for many years. I had to use my own cue ball because the ones in the room had gotten so small. I'm sure the object balls were deteriorated also but... c'est la vie!

What’s your definition of “clean” balls? This video raises questions…

I routinely wipe the balls I'm going to use with a damp towel. This gives me a consistent hit. In a public room, players often snack while playing and oil from their hands is transferred to the balls.

I was a Witness to a Murder in the Pool Room

I witnessed a murder in a pool room also. I was playing 9 ball, race to 21 for $400.00. He won and it killed me.

    Best Shot to Gauge Skill

Agreed. If you can't play shape, you can't play pool.

    Best Shot to Gauge Skill

Set up a relatively easy cut shot to a corner pocket and place a cube of chalk somewhere at the other end of the table. With ball-in-hand, have each player pocket the cut shot and try to stop the cue ball as close as he can to the chalk. The distances from the chalk will give a pretty good idea...

    Favorite form of competition?

I get a lot of enjoyment playing kids that are learning the game. Usually 9 ball or 8 ball. It fun teaching them the fundamentals and watching their reactions when they accomplish something new.

Calling ball and pocket. My final word.

I was hoping when I placed the initial post that we could all have a civil conversation and simply discuss the pros and cons of playing call pocket 9-ball, but I guess that was asking the impossible.

Calling ball and pocket. My final word.

Of course, you can't eliminate all luck, even if you called 2 shots ahead. A good 9 ball player always tries to plan at least 3 shots ahead. But I agree with your suggestion; calling 2 shots ahead in 9 ball would be an excellent game.

Calling ball and pocket. My final word.

Some people constantly try to change the way others live, but if someone tries to change them, they get upset.
