Does anyone know the coefficient of friction between cue ball and tip?

But a rubber tip lets you hit further right? I know it increases deflection and contact time, but you can hit farther with something that has highter COF

Does anyone know the coefficient of friction between cue ball and tip?

I shot at 2142FPS with those footage

    Was this a good hit?

I think it's a foul (but impossible to judge on the spot), the white didn't go in the direction you drew because it had topspin after bouncing off the cushion, and it hit the 3 really full, so the cue ball path looks like a soft follow shot with a full hit.

Does anyone know the coefficient of friction between cue ball and tip?

yeah, the tip or ferrule or shaft will contact the ball after the frist hit. Dr.Dave made one video on this You might not agree with the "miscue should be foul" statement but double hits do occur.

Does anyone know the coefficient of friction between cue ball and tip?

Yeah. One more thing that's possible to do might be to detect another hit to the CB shortly after (0.1 s maybe?) the first hit. Since all (observed) miscues involve multiple hits.

Does anyone know the coefficient of friction between cue ball and tip?

Does that mean that all the chalks Dr.Dave has tested all have COF~0.6 with the ball? That's why the miscue limits are all identical

Does anyone know the coefficient of friction between cue ball and tip?

    How does it detect miscue?

Does anyone know the coefficient of friction between cue ball and tip?

Can't belive I accidentally have you all discovered a new feat! haha. I'll use "question" post in the future too.

Does anyone know the coefficient of friction between cue ball and tip?

I like that "mark as solution" feature

Does anyone know the coefficient of friction between cue ball and tip?

Yes. But Dr.Dave thinks it's not as simple as that, he said, https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/premium-chalks-%E2%80%93-are-they-worth-it.558248/page-6 That's why I want to understand this more. Do you think the sliding friction explanation is the answer?

Does anyone know the coefficient of friction between cue ball and tip?

Thanks. I'm not make a billiard game, just curious what is the case in real-world situation. Can confirm that the tip-ball COF listed on Dr.Dave's webpage is for a chalked tip and the ball, NOT bare tip.

Does anyone know the coefficient of friction between cue ball and tip?

No, and I don't intend to improve my skill by knowing it to begin with. You don't care doesn't mean no one cares.

    DigiBall FAQ

Yeah, checking for direction of ball motion might be a better idea

Does anyone know the coefficient of friction between cue ball and tip?

So I'm still thinking about the miscue limit mentioned by Dr.Dave, and I'm wondering if anyone knows the COF (static and sliding) between the cue ball and a leather tip (chalked and no-chalk)? If not, I'll do an experiement myself and report up here.

    DigiBall FAQ

If @nataddrho hasn't thought of this already, here is my thought on reporting miscue. If a miscue happens, the angular speed of the ball will be much less than the one predicted by physics. You can see Dr.Dave article https://billiards.colostate.edu/technical_proofs/new/TP_A-30.pdf Since...

    About those Chinese 8-ball tables

To my understanding the pockets are supposed to be the same as snooker pockets. I know that they can be as tight as 82mm. As comparison, the 4 1/4 inch pockets on American pool table is 108mm wide

Premium Chalks – Are They Worth It?

So I understand that when the shot is good, there's no sliding involved, hence no sliding friction. But when miscue happens, the tip slides, right? It seems that the two situations are very different.

Premium Chalks – Are They Worth It?

I don't know about Dr.Dave's reputations among students, but from all the interactions I had with him, he's great. Also, there's a survivorship bias on websites like "rate my professors" since most students don't rate their professors, just like you won't likely rate a good restaurant, but you...

Premium Chalks – Are They Worth It?

Right, but on the other hand, it seems that increase in friction doesn't help at all. I remember Dr.Dave said that from observations it seemed any increase in friction at this point doesn't prevent a miscue. So the reason might not be as simple as what I guessed.
