    Pocket size

VERY TRUE! Unless your golf hcp is scratch or less, a course set up for pro golfers will bring the average golfer to his knees. A few years ago I had to be in Palm Springs for a mtg, got there early to play a round. The course was set up for what had been the Bob Hope Desert Classic, name of...

Do you remember your first pool hall?

Russell’s pool hall in Belle Glade, FL. I was only 14, so I could only go in with my dad. Russell and my dad we’re good friends. One day Reid White beat me like I stole something playing 9 ball. Sat down very dejected; Russell came over and told my dad if I paid for table time (60 cents/hour) he...

    Kamui Tips

I echo this comment. From my experience with Kamui tips (installing and using), Michael is dead on about the tips hardening over time. I have actually had to use my dead blow hammer and a Lenox titanium blade to remove a Kamui SS tip that had been installed less than 2 months. I’m using and...

    Oiling cue tip

I’ve tried neatsfoot oil on tips in a effort to soften them. Tip would not hold chalk and it was a miscue fest!! Just accept the fact that tips harden with use and if you need a softer tip, install a new soft tip.

    Runout on mid-size Cuesmith lathe

Thanks for all the help. The paper used for receipts should do the trick for shimming. As always, the talented gentlemen on this site have helped. Thanks again!

    Runout on mid-size Cuesmith lathe

Hi All, I’ve had my mid-size Cuesmith lathe for almost 6 years. I checked the runout when I got it with my dial indicator and it was about .002. Just checked this morning and it was about .003. Is this acceptable for replacing tips, ferrules and tenons? If not, is there a way to adjust the chuck...

Lucasi LZSP2 Sneaky Pete - Tip choice?

I agree with staying with the current tip. Give it time it break in-you may end up liking it. However, if you have a competent tip installer near by, you may want to try a single layer tip, like a Triangle, if you want to try something different. Triangles are usually cheaper to install, and...

Is there a way to estimate your APA skill level

I wasn’t whining; just pointing out that keeping someone at a higher skill level hurts not only the player, but the team too. I haven’t been able to play for several weeks because our SL2 was out. APA’s computer system is surely sophisticated enough to look at a players last 10 matches to get a...

Is there a way to estimate your APA skill level

SL7's can range from barely SL7 to semi pro. SL2's can be decent or barely know one end of the cue from the other. - Jeff in Frisco This is where I have the biggest problem with APA skill levels. I’m a SL7 in our league, but due to several health issues I can no longer play at that level...

Big Question - Do you break with your main playing cue or not

I break pretty hard and have even cracked the ferrule on my break cue. I use softer ferrules on my play cues and I’m sure I would be replacing those ferrules quite often if I used them to break. I’m now using pads on my break cue hoping this will help preserve the integrity of the ferrule. With...

How to soften a to hard tip ?

Soft tips will only be soft for a period of time. All layered tips compress and harden over time. You may want to use a dedicated break cue with a hard tip to delay the Everest tip from compressing to soon. JMHO.

Best OTC Cement for Cue Tips?

Have you tried Lenox titanium blades? A little more expensive than other blades, but they are quite sharp. After you center the tip, let the CA cure several minutes, then slightly wet the tip before cutting. The leather should “ribbon” off the tip, if it’s a layered tip. Then shape and burnish...

    Pool room near Morristown TN.

I just Googled “pool halls in Morristown TN” and found 2-3 pool halls. Try that and contact them about hours of operation, etc. I do know that some of the best Morristown players come to Billiards and Brews in Knoxville.

    Strange think in shaft

Sounds like a tip problem since the Elkmaster tip didn’t make the click. As I mentioned above, make sure there is no air gap between the tip and ferrule. I have removed old tips preparing for the new tip when I have noticed the top of the ferrule looking like Swiss cheese. Glue coverage was...

Chalkless Cue Tips - the Grip Tip.

I tried chalkless cue tips over 2 years ago. Don’t waste your time or money. Center English will work with these tips, but if you need extreme English, forget about it. These are not for serious pool players; just casual players on the table at home. JMHO

    Pool Hall In Copenhagen Denmark

No offense meant to anyone (I worked for a company based in Copenhagen), but after you’ve paid outrageous sums of money to stay there, eaten food (?) there, you sure you’ll have the time and money left to shoot pool? I’d see Tivoli instead of pool.

    Strange think in shaft

From my experience, a cue will make a tink sound when the tip has gaps in the glue surface. Once the tip has been pressed against the ferrule, do not remove; just use the tip to spread the glue around without removing the tip from the ferrule. The ferrule can be a problem too. Some cheap...
