    Cuetec CF shafts

A question for those who own a Cuetec CF shaft. How would you describe the sound made when the cue contacts the cue ball? With a soft or super soft tip, would the sound be a muted, dull thud? Do medium and hard tips make a sound like breaking glass, tink or ping sound? I like a soft hitting cue...

    Understanding the TAP handicap system

Thanks lorider for your perspective on this. My final thought - I was raised to a 7 after one win over another 6. One win! This was spring of 2017. I had to drop out after several medical problems - St. Louis reduced my handicap back to a six. I finally was able to return in Spring of 2018...

    Understanding the TAP handicap system

Maybe further explanation is needed. The LO never watches me play, he looked at my winning % from 15 years ago when I was a 4 hcp, and he completely ignores the fact that I’m the lowest ranked 7 in the league. With a winning % of less than 30%, how could anyone claim that I’m a 7 hcp? My...

    Understanding the TAP handicap system

It took me 12 years of playing various leagues to come to the conclusion that I am not going to lose any sleep over what my handicap is or my opponents either. LO opinions on what someone’s true handicap is, or is not, bother me because I have to spot players at least as good as I am (some...

    Understanding the TAP handicap system

If your league is run like our local APA league, you’re at the mercy of the LO. If our LO thinks you’re a 7, then you’re a 7! Doesn’t matter if you get drilled by 5s and 6s, you’re a 7! If you win less than 40% of you’re matches, then you’re a 7! Know this from firsthand experience.

Ferrule question, what am I doing wrong?

You didn’t say what lathe you use, but to me it looks like a dull cutting tool is at least a part of this. I use a Cuesmith lathe and cutting tools from Chris Hightower. Start with a sharp cutting tool, adjust the speed and feed rate accordingly and the problem should diminish or disappear. JMHO.

    Cuetec CF shaft

Thanks everyone for posting responses. Since the tip was changed to a Kamui medium, I’m willing to bet the installer didn’t prep tip properly and it now has a spot or two with no glue between the tip and ferrule. I’ve seen this a least a dozen times when removing an old tip.

    Cuetec CF shaft

I finally had a chance to hit the Cuetec CF shaft last night. The tip on the shaft was a Kamui black medium. I was shocked the shaft made a tick sound when hit. From my experience this sound is usually due to a poor tip glue up. Any current Cuetec CF users experienced this sound? If so, how were...

    Shane VanBoening vs Corey Deuel

Thanks for that info. Sounds like an interesting way to play. I’ll try to get a friend of mine to practice like that for APA Masters as it is a little 8 ball, a little 9 ball. Thanks again.

    Shane VanBoening vs Corey Deuel

Why are there only 13 balls in the rack? I’ve never seen this before at the pro level. Thanks.

    Tip hardness tester

Great point Chris; I’ve found Triangles (broken in) play softer than any soft or super soft tip when also broken in!! I wish someone could explain this. Could it be that the glue that holds the layers together gets harder over time? Or is it that the thin layers dry out and harden very quickly...

Which Wax To Use on Shafts???

I could not agree more!! I used Renaissance wax on a new dining room table and treated it like Johnson’s Paste Wax. What a mistake! Mineral spirits and elbow grease to remove it. Actually thought I damaged the wood. Please follow instructions on label for that product.

    wtb old tiger softs

Can’t help you with the Tiger soft tips, but I did want to let you know your are spot on about the US Elite Med tips (the gray ones). Haven’t lost a match since switching. They are the closest tip to a Triangle tip I have ever used. Thanks again for the tip (no pun intended).

    Triangle-LePro.......??

I had just about given up on layered tips; thought I’d try the US Ivory med tip on my main player. Dave, your insight on all things pool have been quite helpful; now I feel more comfortable with my choice. Hope I feel the same way Friday morning! Thanks again!

    Neoprene rubber to cushion hit

Chris, I should have known you had already tried this. I have a sheet of commercial grade, durometer 70 (supposed to be hard) rubber on the way. I’ll compare it to the commercial grade 60 with Triangle tips first. Don’t want to lose too much money on layered tips if this doesn’t meet my...

    Neoprene rubber to cushion hit

Thanks Chris, I’ve checked with a rubber mfg who can supply rubber with a durometer rating of 60, just a little softer than the tip. They said CA will work on both sides. I’ll give this a try to see if it can work. Thanks again for the help.

    Neoprene rubber to cushion hit

A question for those far more knowledgeable than me. Has anyone tried a small piece of neoprene rubber between the ferrule and tip? CA glue should hold them both. I have several “soft” (I use this term VERY loosely) tips that I know will harden in a few weeks. Just wondering if the rubber will...
