Help creating a custom jump/break cue

Ok, that clarifies a lot. There's essentially 3 ways to accomplish your goal: 1. Automotive finish (like Predator uses) 2. White natural or thermoset material. 3. Using Holly with a heavy core material like Purpleheart or Jatoba.

    Foam...

I gave you a lot of detail mate. But if you want to know what density foam I used it's a combination of 2 lbs and 4lbs. On break and jump shafts I use 8lbs and 2lbs. As I commented before on your posts, myself and others take time out of our day to answer questions and the temptation do...

    Foam...

I have built quite a few shafts, where about 1/3 of the shaft from the joint have a denser foam, then a lighter foam in the rest of the shaft. Does it make a big difference? Not really, but it does change the final weight and balance somewhat. I second @kling&allen suggestion about testing it...

Cue butt diameter older cues vs. new

Production cues today are often in the 1.240" - 1.250" range, some like Viking and Meucci are larger in diameter. Cuetec cues have always been super skinny, not long ago they used to have that .791" joint diameter. New Cuetec's at least have a .840" joint diameter.

    Do leather wraps need conditioning.

Sure. Use leather conditioner now and then as with any leather products.

    Wood Identification?

Very porous for sure. Is it a very light cue?

Kamui athlete tip for carbon fiber Shafts anyone using this tip and why?

I have installed a lot of Kamui Athlete Medium tips for customers and feedback has been very good. I just got Kamui Athlete Soft tips in stock and have installed a few, cut like butter. Is there any validity to it being a carbon fibre shaft specific tip? I really can't see the science behind that.

Chinese knock off Predator P3 and SP2

ALL Tiger products are made in USA. Go to their website and it's very clear where they make their cues, he'll, you can even go visit them if you like. Tony is very knowledgeable and a nice guy.

Predator butt cap in metal ?

Not all ideas work as well in real life.. If you want a more rear weighted cue, add a heavier weight. If you can find a heavy enough weight bolt, have a machine shop make one from brass, it's a quick and easy job.

Chinese knock off Predator P3 and SP2

I don't think you should look at Pooldawg as the ultimate source, there's a lot of factual errors in that list. As for Tiger cues they are all made by a small team in Burbank CA.

Metal lathe, what else would be needed?

If you only ever plan on doing tips and ferrules, you can get by with a 7x12, but things tend to snoball.. so going a step up to a 10x22 will let you do more stuff, like threading shafts and so on. I think Grizzly wants about $1500 for a 10x22, which is a fair price for what you get. A collet...

What types of wood are cue butts made of? How do they affect the way a cue hits?

I always think in terms of music instruments as it seems to be easier for the customer to understand then. What woods and techniques used in a guitar or a violin all affect the final product, but if you divide the guitar into its components it can be hard to say how much a single component...

What types of wood are cue butts made of? How do they affect the way a cue hits?

A cue is the sum of all it's parts, so while the shaft, ferrule material/construction and tip is a big part of what you feel. How the butt is made, what woods are used and what hardware is used will impact the final result in terms of feel, feedback and balance.

    Mezz cues

There's a worldwide shortage on Mezz cues and especially the carbon fibre products like Ignite, Power Break G and Airdrive 3, so it can be a bit tricky to find. I have them in stock and suspect several European dealers do. Remember that Ignite now is only available in the 3 joints Mezz offers...

Chinese knock off Predator P3 and SP2

Predator has worked with Taican, now Hamson for years. If they have cues produced at other facilities in China I don't know, and I think unless someone with intimate knowledge of the production side of things in China comes on here, it's always gonna be guessing. Viking, McDermott, Schon...
