Chalking It has been my experience, if you don't chalk your tip regularly, this is what causing your tip to "glaze" over. The chalk protects this from happening, IMO.

I have been installing tips for 20 years and have never used tape to protect ferrules. However, I have a new (used) Prewitt, with ivory ferrules, and I am a little anal about my new sweet heart. Thanks for the help everyone!
