    New York City tournaments

Vinny was the nice old Italian guy, but wasn't pudgy. (He made his famous cigarette speeches, nightly.) The pudgy guy was Bumblebee, but he wasn't very nice. Might have been Meo, he's not Italian but fits the description. Other than Meo, might have been Danny Barouty running the tournaments...

Installing a Pool Table in a Garage, Help.

I ran 3/4" copper pipe from the boiler in main house, to the garage with baseboard heat(and back, with a return line). You can make the water flow with a small pump, and insulate/bury the line outside so it doesn't freeze. Or instead of using the house boiler, you can use a small hot water...

Is certification absolutely necessary to teach pool to beginners and intermediates?

Sounds good, Alex. What helped me a lot was watching a few other instructors teach. Also, and even better, would be taking a lesson from 2 or 3 different, more experienced instructors. From there, you should get a good feel for how to present and incorporate your own ideas.

Proposed TAR - TOI VS NO AIMING SYSTEM

Its been a long time, but I think I might remember why there is debate as to the old rules. There were 2 ways to play 9 ball back then, "regular" and "push out." Regular would be SJD's way, and push out would be CJ's. I know that at one point we did play with BIH anywhere on the table, we...

Proposed TAR - TOI VS NO AIMING SYSTEM

That only works if your opponent doesn't see the safety that you do. He locks you up on your own push a couple of times, and you learn real quick what your opponent can really see.

    Flat Break Tip

I've used flat-ish tips at times, mostly house cues. Works ok as long as I hit center ball and make contact with the whole tip.

    Gripping the cue

I recommend a light grip too, but that doesn't mean a firmer grip cant work. I've seen a couple of "A" players who play with a tight grip. Doesn't mean its "correct" but it works for them. I think your father is right, but I'm not sure about the wrist part. Its true you cant use wrist and a...

    When does english reverse?

That's a good answer, I like it. Another simple way to look at it: Look at the shot and do the opposite of what the shot "looks like" it calls for.

    What is a shortstop?

I've only seen the term used here, but I have taken it to be the equivalent of an "open" player. An open player shoots one step below pro. Another step below that would be an "A" player.

Who benefits more from last pocket 8ball? Better players or bangers?

Of course, all just opinion here. I don't think you are wrong either. The way I see it, the weak player needs luck to win no matter what game it is. More times at the table he gets, the better his chances. He might only get one shot in a regular game, so even one extra shot would double his...

Who benefits more from last pocket 8ball? Better players or bangers?

I think the weaker players chances of winning each game, go up by a small amount. Reason being, more can go wrong for the better player. Better player might not be able to finish as easily, thus giving up another shot. Being out of line one time or missing a bank could cost you the game. The guy...

Proposed TAR - TOI VS NO AIMING SYSTEM

That's almost an act of desperation, a move that could have easily backfired. Even at pro level, you don't see open players spotting pros squat. I wish I had someone under me, and still giving up weight!

Exactly how good are these professional players?

Just experience alone should make anybody better at handling pressure. Every time you go out and play in a tournament, you learn something about the game.... and hopefully yourself. All those woulda coulda shouldas all add up in your favor, even if you lose or play badly. Unless of course, you...

Exactly how good are these professional players?

Never seen any pro give out the 5, breaks and ball in hand after the break to a B. B players I've seen would string too many racks together with the 5 and BIH. Old predator tour rules, for instance, would spot a game on the wire for every level of difference. So a pro spots a semi/open player a...

Exactly how good are these professional players?

Wow, only guys like Efren could do that to Ginkly in his prime. Back then Ginky would spot me and the rest of us bums the 5 and out. If he didn't make a ball on the break, he would push out to a spot where I couldn't kick at the 1 ball. I'd let him shoot again(back then it was push out style)...

Exactly how good are these professional players?

Biggest spots I've seen would be the call 5 ball and a game on the wire(race to 5). But that would be a pro against a C. Never seen a pro give out that kind of weight unless the opponent played D speed.

No sir, those were all done without any suggestion from me. Obviously, and in all fairness....you had a lot more to do with their creation than I did.
