Thanks Rick, I could see that work to accommodate more angles. To me though, the 1/4 ball reference is just as ambiguous as, dare I say....the cte line. Part of what I like about the method, is that its based off of consistent edges, half ball alignment. I'm not saying it cant be done, but...

I'm glad its working for you, but I see things a bit differently. I'm being told my way is no good(center ball). I find that disturbing, yet I don't bash anybody. Also still wondering how speed could be used to cheat a pocket without accounting for throw. I'm also thinking, IF the theory...

How Would You Play This Layout?

I agree Pidge, but I was thinking of a slightly different safety. I'd probably go soft, and use a bit of right spin here...... just to make sure I don't miss the ball entirely. If one had to shoot from the circled zone, there would much lower possibility of a "slow roll up" type of return...

And your run out percentage from here would be? And your level?

I'm still not sure why you say it cant be done with center ball, especially when there have been so many great center ballers in the past. Also not sure how speed would come into play to cheat the pocket. The only way I can use speed to cheat the pocket, is with throw. But your dvd doesn't...

You are breaking down the hypothetical errors to such minute amounts, that I do believe the ball might still go in under those conditions. I'm also willing to believe you are good enough that when you do miss your mark, its by such a tiny amount that it doesn't make much difference anyway...

How Would You Play This Layout?

I agree, the safety is a weak play for a pro or semi pro. (As Pidge said early on.) As I said earlier, I am a B+ player. I like my chances on leaving you a long combo. If I can get the cue ball on the short rail, the return safety would be tough. I like that better than a tough bank AND...

How Would You Play This Layout?

To me, the odds change when you have to get position off of another ball. So all that logic about being out half the time with such and such balls left goes out the window. If you execute that safety properly, you would be putting your opponent in a compromising position. Not too many players...

How Would You Play This Layout?

That's the thing. If you don't feel good about your chances of running out, and there is a standard, viable safety available....you play safe. Not sure why you say winning a safety battle would involve pocketing the 6 first.

How Would You Play This Layout?

Right now he has the chance to leave his opponent a long combo(preferably the more balls on the rail the better). He may not get a better opportunity to play as good of a safe. Secondly, if I was playing with friends with nothing to lose, , of course I would go for the bank. The ONB layouts...

How Would You Play This Layout?

Not sure why you don't like the safe. Its not just making the bank, its finishing the layout. Say its not your home table, you still betting on the runout all day long?

Regardless of which side of the ball is hit, deflection, speed and spin need to be calculated. Sometimes swerve too. The main difference is that outside spin eliminates throw, inside usually does not. Perhaps that's why for most players, outside spin is easier to use. I'm also thinking, as...

How Would You Play This Layout?

I agree with Uwate. And I'm one of those guys who safes better than he banks. So if its a game I really need to win, I'm going low risk. As a B+ player, I like the thin safe. Combined with the distance, my opponent would have to do something special to earn his victory. Of course, a lot...

The fast and loose player vs the slow and controlled type of player.

Everybody has a certain amount of mental stamina. Play too slow and think too much, and you will burn yourself out quicker.

    Mika Immonen

Well since you brought it up JJ, I will share my Mika story too. About 5 years ago there was a celebrity pool tournament sponsored by Justin Tuck of the NY Giants. The BCA asked all the NY instructors to act as referees for the event, so I went. No pay but it was open bar....I had fun...

Your Thoughts In A Pressure Situation

I want to say I'd go for the shot, but first I'd have to know what the successful safety % looked like. As far as what I'm thinking, as little as humanly possible.

I like Nicks safety. If I'm feeling good, I like what HawaiianEye said. (The 1 bank in the side/carom the 7.)

How Would You Shoot The 7?

I'm not at my table now, so I can't try the safety. If it works, I might get a better shot. This isn't exactly the same, but a similar safety to what I had in mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhkJHHdBbNY&feature=youtu.be I know the 3 rail shot, thanks ONB. And I agree its a standard...
