Any videos of Dr Dave in an actual match?

True, players usually don’t get dramatically better if they’ve been playing for awhile and there may be a ceiling, but I think part of it is just not playing enough and not the right level of competition. For example, the best I ever played was when I was playing on a consistent basis and...

Any videos of Dr Dave in an actual match?

Dave is definitely a solid player. When I asked him in a thread a few years ago what his estimated fargo rate would be- he said around what you said, maybe a bit higher. On a side note, I wonder what the pocket size is for those tables- seem to play quite generous.

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

I understand your rationale, but in a dark bar with players under the influence of alcohol, there would be endless arguments about whether a ball was moved. I get the complexities you brought up with only cue ball fouls, but in the 20 years of league I’ve played in, those have rarely happened-...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

I agree- the league I play in has enough arguments over petty things- don't want to add all ball fouls because it would just be another thing to argue about.

Up and coming cue makers to invest in???

I'm not into collecting custom cues, but I know in the LA area that Carlos Coll makes great custom cues and also repairs cues/tips very well

Luke Littler- Darts phenom leading to huge growth in the sport

I don't follow Darts- barely know how to play, so I was surprised when I read this article about how lucrative it is becoming. Makes you wonder if the same is possible for pool- perhaps if a phenom comes along is promoted by Match Room. I am biased toward pool, but I think most people would...

    9-Ball vs. 10-Ball Breaking Formats

I think for Ultimate Pool, the pockets aren't that wide, it's just that the cloth is brand new so the balls slide in quite easily

Interesting article on the decline of Bowling

Seems like the Midwest is a hotbed for bowling and pool- weather is so cold in the winter that you have to turn to indoor recreation and real estate is still relatively cheap. I used grew up in Michigan and back then (1980s and 90s) pool and bowling were big

Interesting article on the decline of Bowling

What area are you writing about? Sounds like a great place for pool and bowling.

Interesting article on the decline of Bowling

Just read this article about the decline of bowling. Never really been into bowling, but I noticed some parallels to pool- debates about who business owners should cater to (causals vs serious players), traditional games/tables (of course the bar table craze in the US and I didn't know that...

    Lifting Weights before a Tournament?

Depends on how heavy you lift- I've been lifting heavy (for me- there are guys at the gym much stronger than me) for decades on a consistent basis and I still get sore- it alleviates after a few days of training a body part, but you still get sore.

    Lifting Weights before a Tournament?

I've been lifting weights for 35 years and playing pool for around 30 of those years. In my experience, it makes no difference especially if you have been working out for a long time- your body gets adjusted to it. In fact, I'd probably play worse if I stopped working out as I would feel out of...

Tony Chohan thoughts on money matches

Since he brought it up, does anybody know what specific health ailment Chohan has? Also, he stated that he beat SVB over and over even in rotation games- SVB must have been giving him weight, correct?

Van Boening vs. Gorst 10-Ball Race to 120, Rematch June 2025 -- General Comments Thread

I think very few people are, so it begs the question why they still have them. I understand if it is for themselves, but if it is for the fans, it is a bad idea.

    Lowest Deflection Wood Shafts

After using the Cuetec Cynergy carbon fiber shaft for several years, I recently returned to my wood shaft- Cuetec R360- great cue, but I don't think they sell it any more. Thinner shaft and smaller tip- I think there is a subtle difference in that it does seem to improve my shot accuracy

If Joshua Filler and/or Fedor Gorst Were Born In The United States

There are too many variables that really determine what the outcome would be. For example, one could argue that Landon Shuffett has just a much playing ability as Gorst and Filler, but he choose not to pursue pool. Bergman and Dechaine are also top level talents but never really lived up to...

Chris “THE MAGICIAN” Melling Does It Again … More Amazing Shot Sequences

Melling is so supremely talented. He is one of the most impressive players in terms of shot making, rapidity of play and mentality. It’s almost demoralizing to watch him play because he makes it look so effortless

Why do players seem to want the same cue, tip, and specs that their favorite player uses?

Filler really uses a 16 oz cue? That is extremely light
