It can and does happen. It's certainly a means of combatting the sandbagging that everyone sems to think is so prevalent in APA. There are people who will game the system, until they get to the bigger tournaments, and then play a lot better. Or, you could have been on the bubble already...

I'm with you, 100%. That was always a concern for me. In my 8-9 years of captaining a team, during the regular session, I would always try my best to match up as close as possible in skill levels, especially the lower level players, as opposed to throwing off, like some captains like to do...

In my league match this week, I wore the Amazon cheapy that I recently purchased. (We were in the room in town with the high humidity.) It worked out well enough, I didn't have to mess with chalk or such. (I still lost, but it wasn't cuz of a sticky cue ;) )

I ended up trying the one I just ordered, last night at pool. Took a couple shots to get used to it, but after that it wasn't any big deal to me. I'm just a hack, tho. I still probably will only use it in tough room conditions, but it's there if needed.
