Thanks Mike, I guess it does come down to proper fit. My first ox bone 5/8" ferrule. I was nervous. Used G bit and tapped with spiral bottom tap. Threads came out great. Once installed and turned down only time will tell.

Should all Ivory and bone ferrules be tapped and capped? Also, is 1/8" cap enough to prevent cracking? Would a G be better than F to prevent a crack due to pressure of tapping? Thanks!

Does Joss use 5/8x11 or 5/8x18 SS joint? I know it probably wouldnt be 3/4x16 to thin walled but not sure. Thanks

Yep, looks like it's going to be oxalic acid for me. States it does not affect the natural color unlike bleaches like peroxide or chlorine.

Well mmm....I found an interesting article on wood furniture restoration. The marks look very similar to the color on my shaft and it states that if the wood is in contact with metal and moisture the iron oxide in metal forms a reaction to tannins in the wood and turns it black. could be...

I agree about the cue rack but dont think its sugar marks to black and the black mark on the top there are one on the other side like 180 degrees from it. The marks are actually little darker than what the pic shows. Almost like burn marks... might be mold in the wood. The cue was in a guys...

Could be due to sitting in a old cue rack with the black rubber holders or felt for years and the color has absorbed into the wood. Dont know. It is original shaft and straight so i dont want to replace it. Is there a way to restore it? Is there a way to bleach it or something?

Well stated....Yes balance pt. is really important to my game. If i have a forward weighted cue i tend to choke up on the cue. If the balance pt is farther back i will tend to hold farther back near the butt. This is why i like a 57" cue as long as it is forward balanced. I think that players...
