I was browsing through the wanted/for sale section of the forum when I saw in someone's signature that they use a 314 shaft on their playing cue. At that point it hit me. I realized that the reason they called it a 314 is because of the "pie" shaped sections...lol. Pie ~ Pi ~...
I believe Mark Bear makes them. He posts here as fullsplice I think. I don't have any full splice yet, however, I am on Joel's wait list and only have 4 or so more years to wait before my name comes up...lol.
In all fairness, he did this to himself! I did the same as you and cut my losses. I think that if you are wanting a starter custom cue that you're going to keep for a while and play with all the time, and don't mind CNC points, then DP is a good choice. I will probably never buy another DP...
That's what Andy Gilbert still makes! His Jump/Breaks play just about as well as anything I've played with! I have a custom one on order as we speak. Hopefully I will get it in the next month or so!
What about people from weak areas? Are they adjusted down at nationals? I was a 7 in APA and when I started TAP I moved over as a 7, but I think that nationally I would be a 6 at best. Are players like me just not going to be able to compete nationally?
I feel your pain. I had two DPs at one time, one fancy one not, and I lost over 50% on both when I sold them after he went crazy on eBay. I thought they played well, but I couldn't stand his change in business practices. Good for new buyers who want a decent cue cheap, but bad for current...
Not to mention that everyone is treating force, velocity, acceleration, and momentum as scalars, at least in what posts I've read, when they are actually vectors. It's still elementary physics, but it does change the calculations a bit.
I can unequivocally guarantee that you are not getting draw hitting above center, no matter how much you "snap" the cue/stroke. What you are doing when "snap" the cue is you think you're hitting above center but you're really dipping the tip to center or below. If you were hitting above center...
I think that you could get very close to maximum spin with little or no follow through. However, you would have to set up to where your arm is already near it's stopping point against the bicep and not drop the elbow. However, that being said, I don't think you could get maximum cue ball...
Those are some really nice cues! I can't wait to get my new Skip. It will be the realization of a design I put to paper a long time ago! Really looking forward to it!
I agree completely! Paul Fanelli is sending me pictures of the various stages of cue building and it does build the excitement. It sounds like your cue will look very nice! If you'd like to check out my latest pic it's under update #2 in the cue gallery!
