That's because he can. I jump up and go sit down. Best, Mike

I've had to shorten mine, too. Fast and loose has turned into fat and sloppy! Best, Mike

His elbow drop is longer than his backswing for most shots. That would take some good timing to pull off. Best, Mike

That short backstroke eliminates a lot of problems. Something to think about when you got the wobbles going on. He's definitely on one end of the spectrum for mechanics of the stroke. Best, Mike

Don't know. He has very little mechanics to actually study. It's over in the blink of an eye. :D You'd need a high speed camera to slow down his technique, then ask him about what he's feeling to go with the picture. Tremendous talent, that's for sure. Best, Mike

Definitely an eye opener. What a stroke! Best, Mike

Sure, I have. One of the most talented players in history and yet he does everything different from almost everybody else. He might have been a great neurosurgeon if he wasn't playing pool. Best, Mike

    Question about intentional swerve

I guess I'm labeled a swoop believer because I added a "possible" comment to your body of work. Please reread my post above and notice the emphasis, mine. It was a thought and only that. I wasn't denigrating or arguing the research. :( FWIW, I rarely employ a swoop stroke and cue rarely even...

I agree. Having fast hands does move the weapon/tool faster for some, in most cases. Pool, yes, but in varying degrees in other sports. The type of stroke plays an important role in the results, also. Buddy Hall has a more deliberate stroke, and still seems to get quite a bit of spin on the...

Good post. I think the idea of what type of finish you want on the stroke helps formulate the entire stroke from the backswing, forward. Massey has talked about his follow through for his draw stroke before, during demonstrations. He likes to drop the elbow and follow through. No doubt it works...

This is like using BHE and aiming at the contact point when using inside spin. Mitch and a few other posters have mentioned aiming at the contact point before with TOI or when they're using the inside of the cue ball. CJ has said a couple of things about this, also, but hasn't been as specific...

Excellent observation, but his thread is stuck in old news from 20 years ago. You'll have to start a new thread to get a more interesting and up to date discussion going. :) Best, Mike

The idea of pinning the cue ball is probably more consistent with your first example of the stroke. The second method would most likely be a typical stroke for most better players. Best, Mike

Now, you did it! :grin-square: I take great offense to that remark and use that offense in my pool game. Best, Mike

Agreed. And how do these subtle changes get implemented to create the corresponding outcomes after the stroke? Not baiting you, just interested in other's opinions on what is actually happening during the last parts of the stroke to the cue ball and the player. Best, Mike

I apologize for "swooping" down on him, like that. It was a "backhand" thing to do! :) Best, Mike

LAMas, Thanks, for the images. Though my trig and calc are rusty, I get the gist and relationships between the angle in/angle out. There's several minor conversations going on here, but that's good. Changing the way we understand the stroke is a must in order to learn more about it. Though it...
