I like to use my cue to line up to the contact point, too. With familiarity of the amount to pivot, I'll be able to adjust to the shot line as I move down into the shot. The tougher shots may always need the cue stick as a guide, especially at a distance. Best, Mike

For me, those stroke errors go away with a correct visual alignment. I would think I was lined up well and I'd spasm on the stroke. No amount of fixes, like your stroke slip and catching the cue would solve all the problems. It's like a gremlin running around your stroke arm. You fix one problem...

    CTP2CTP Aiming

The vision center errors show up when I pivot to center cue ball. As I said before, I use a hip pivot instead of just moving my back arm. This allows me to keep my head and body aligned with the shot line. If my head position is off where my vision center is looking across the shot line...

    CTP2CTP Aiming

I think the adjustment with the pivot is compensating nicely for the undercut. In time, a player could probably eliminate the pivot as they go down on the shot to the table. This would be an estimate. The physical changing pivot is no estimate and a solid variable physical technique. I worked...

    CTP2CTP Aiming

I worked a little more with the mirror image system and had to make a few adjustments to get it to work. With a little practice, it could probably be pretty accurate. I also worked with the system you spoke about and tried to zero in with the pivot as the adjustment. I found when I used a hip...

    CTP2CTP Aiming

Too bad we're located quite a distance apart. Few players where I'm at are students of the game. Sharing info with pros is mainly done over the phone for me and some is secondhand and anecdotal. Anymore, I just hear about who got dumped, who's in which corporation, and all the dirt that's...

    CTP2CTP Aiming

Big E, It took me a few racks to get to where I could figure out the pivot. It changed with each contact point and I had to actually just look at the object ball only, to stop my brain from wanting to steer the cue. :grin-square: If I brought the pocket into the equation, I spasmed and...

LAMas, You're shooting like the diagram in the second post (as the OP says), but just moving to center cue ball. I was eye balling the offsets and just cueing to center ball when I worked with it. I'll try to do it with my cue tip/shaft and see how it goes. Best, Mike

    CTP2CTP Aiming

So, you aim directly at the CP, but you make no conscious adjustment for the under cut for certain angles? You're adjusting by feel? Or do you have a way to adjust consciously and just adapted it into your game? Best, Mike

Never reported you or anybody else. Never will. There must be other readers reporting your innocent, passive aggressive posts. You implied CJ's comments were trivial and tried to ruin the thread. SOP for you. It ruined the thread for me and I'm sure, others. Another Aiming Forum thread ruined...

Explain why, in a CJ appreciation thread, you phrase this sentence, altar boy? Because CJ said it. Another dig at CJ. NEIL+CJ THREAD=Innocent comment. Doesn't add up. Thanks, CJ. Although you're not an instructor, I appreciate the time you take to contribute to these forums and expand the...

The Greatest Myth in Billiards' History - The Bad Stroke!

Colin, In my situation, you're absolutely correct about what makes me miss a shot. 95% of the time it is poor alignment, usually caused by incorrect visuals. When aligned to the target, my stroke is straight and true. With an incorrect alignment, my compensation to pocket the balls causes my...

The slip stroke; not its definition, but its purpose

Actually, there was a common school of thought that the rotation of the baseball played a part in allowing it to move faster after its release. The methods tested were the 2 and 4 seam fastball pitches and how they affected the travel of the ball through the air. While the 4 seam fastball's...
