    Drawing Back Straight

Wild Turkey bottles are the best. Start with a full one. Drink a third of it then try again. If no improvement, quit using draw and work on your follow stroke...but keep drinking. :) Best, Mike PS Try relaxing on your stroke a little. You may be trying for spin too hard and throwing your...

    shadow aiming???

IIRC, Ron Vitello wrote a book about shadow aiming. Spidey may know something about all this. Dave? Best, Mike

    Any electricians here?

In addition, don't ground your duplex receptacle. The original neutral connection which you're heating up is connected to the ground connection. :( Also, your rheostat's grounded plug will send a hot to your rheostat housing. Ouch! GL Best, Mike

The slip stroke; not its definition, but its purpose

I think Efren is the guy to watch with this type of stroke, et al. In my experience, the last parts in the throwingmotion are moving nearly and at that speed with which the ball is thrown. The release is the apex, speed wise, of the throw and it decelerates at the plate. The question's been...

The slip stroke; not its definition, but its purpose

True. But what about some players with a 6 to 8 inch slip stroke? And would a player that relies on a gripping type of stroke like MD benefit by using their hands instead of the arm movement? I think the hand actually moves more. It starts in the finish position which is past the point of cue...

The slip stroke; not its definition, but its purpose

Two things come to mind. Can there be more acceleration by adding a portion of the cue stick's weight to the stroke, therefore more power, and/or lessening the physical distance of the backswing and increasing the chance for a truer, more efficient forward movement? Best, Mike

The slip stroke; not its definition, but its purpose

I'd also like a discussion on the acceleration using the principle of the slip stroke. Getting a little more weight behind the hit, however subtle, is interesting. After all, it's a magical stroke to us amateurs. Best, Mike

The slip stroke; not its definition, but its purpose

When I ran with Bobby Cotton, he had nothing, but good things to say about Red. One of his mentors. He showed him a few things that he later showed me. Not all, but some. GL, with the inside heat at Volcanoes. I don't want to hear about the outside heat!!! Best, Mike

The slip stroke; not its definition, but its purpose

If it's your stroke, use it. I do, too, on occasion. It's great for the fast tables. Your observations on the exhibition make me think Willie's game may have changed over the years. Not sure, but he may have gravitated to a different technique for reasons I can only guess. Nobody on this forum...

    shadow aiming???

As Ralph said, the incandescent bulbs have a more refined perimeter on their shadow. With flourescents, the main shadow is still there, just muted (football shaped under the ball) depending on the object ball location. A little trick with the fluorescent bulbs is to hover your cue stick a...

In Defense of Pro Pool Players

CJ, well said! Promoting a sport is more than slapping a sticker on the competitor and watching them go around a track 500 times. Although, it works well for them. :D Despite what the players like, without changes to the game, we won't attract the positive attention we need. And these changes...

The slip stroke; not its definition, but its purpose

I don't use it much when I play rotation games. The power strokes call for a little tighter grip. It depends on the game you're playing. Straight pool, snooker and one pocket have different stroke requirements. Rotation games have a different mindset and level of intensity. Like I said, I...

The slip stroke; not its definition, but its purpose

I'm glad you noticed the mechanics. That's obvious and again, you state what we all see and then explain it. Closer to level and moving forward through the cue ball. Not down and ride off of the top of the cue ball. Notice that...a different angle of attack on certain shots. I use the...

The slip stroke; not its definition, but its purpose

I see an "adjustment' on nearly every shot the camera lets us see his stroke. Whether you call it a slip stroke or stroke adjustment, he's doing it. I also noticed a few times he either swipes at the cue ball or uses BHE to pocket balls. And he also does a version of moving his cue tip up the...
