    Questions for Mike with FargoRate

The subtlety people miss is contained here. Yes, agreed. And yes Dennis should go for less in the Calcutta on the easier tables. No, it doesn't. Dennis is still 126 points above those 700s on the bar table. He still wins more than 2 games for every one the 700s win. And the average score...

Who is going to win the 2023 Mosconi Cup?

The only thing we know about Kaci since his accident this summer is the 70 games he played against established opponents at World 8-Ball in October. His opponents averaged 804, and won 39 games and lost 31. With a rating of 831, Kaci was expected to win 38.

    Tip Softness/Effect on Draw

Here, anecdotally, is my effort to narrow the variables and test this. I took two identical $100 production cues --can't remember the brand. On one I put softest tip I had (Kamui super soft) and on the other a hard tip--tinkier sound. I shaped them the same, and a player couldn't tell which...

10 Reasons Why the HALF-BALL HIT is so Important

How about I"LL choose words to describe MY thoughts, and YOU choose words to describe YOUR thoughts. When YOU choose words to describe MY thoughts, things get goofy. Next you'll be asking ME to post a video explaining YOUR gobblygook... Oh, wait. You already did that.

10 Reasons Why the HALF-BALL HIT is so Important

Aiming makes up 2 pages of 40 in the Foundations Course material I just posted in another thread (other than content that is part of shot routine). I think that's about the right importance. Here is what I say about the "inbetween" overlaps.

Instructional materials people may find useful.

Why does a FargoRate 100 point difference not exactly equal 2-1 in games?

I think not quite but almost. Suppose Fedor and Kristina are 100 points apart. That means Fedor has a 2/3 chance of winning each game and Kristina a 1/3 chance. If they play 81 games, Fedor is expected to won 54 and Kristina 27. Now suppose we look at those 81 games as 27 groups of 3 We...

Why does a FargoRate 100 point difference not exactly equal 2-1 in games?

Think of the 2-to-1 race. For the stronger player to win he must win the first 2 games. The chance of doing that is 2/3 X 2/3 which is 4/9, a little shy of half. As the race gets longer, as you show, the difference gets smaller.

    Men vs Women

Two things. First those lists require 300 and not 200 games. The second one is the bigger one. To avoid having long retired players on the “top player” lists, we exclude players with fewer than 150 games last 2 years. This is normally not a stringent requirement. But if Asian players are not...
