    GB9 Ball Tour Tight pockets

Fargo Ratings don't in a sense "react" to the difficulty of the equipment the way you are thinking. The balance between US and European ratings is determined by the aggregate of what happens when US players play European players. This includes situations in which the US and European players are...

    fargo rate not changing??

I live now off the beaten path and I go to a small race to 2 or 3 weekly tournament. No Fargo Ratings or anything. Ben, who runs it, will occasionally assign one player, perhaps someone who has been successful recently, to go to an extra game, "we're gonna put a handicap on you tonight, Anthony"...

    Digital pool assistance

I might be able to help. With the multiple Boyer records in the system, I want first to confirm that you were around Evansville several years ago and have in recent years been up the other side of the state and you now went back to your old stomping grounds for a benefit tournament. I see that...

Curious-Do Fargo ratings differ by location?

We would not be able to say that (zero islands 20 or 50). Islands are not a very big problem overall, though. Even places that seem to be remote for which the vast majority have not played elsewhere tend to be more coupled than people might guess. We generally don't get islands in North America...

Curious-Do Fargo ratings differ by location?

Not at all. The Arizona rating approach was quite good. It also required organization, cooperation, and work. They did a fine job rating the players who played regularly in AZ. And the primary use of the ratings besides ego badges was capped tournaments, something for which there has always...

Fargo Starter Rating Affecting “True” Average?

League operators do a remarkably good job on average. The most commonly assigned guess is 400. Of the roughly 1000 players assigned 400 within the last couple years who now have an established rating, the average Fargo Rating is 391. Of the 557 people assigned 500, average rating is now 476 450...

Fargo Starter Rating Affecting “True” Average?

It's hard to say. If you play league, your league operator can assign one. And your league operator can adjust it. For you he can put it anywhere between 525 and 550. That is, he can move it in the direction that puts it closer to performance if he chooses. He might do that if the 525 was just...

Fargo Starter Rating Affecting “True” Average?

    Yes, a weight of 86/200 (43%) on the performance rating and a weight of 114/200 (57%) on the guess 0.43 X 550 + 0.57 X 525 = 536

Fargo Starter Rating Affecting “True” Average?

You have a performance rating of 550 based on 86 games, about 40% of the number of games you'd need to have a "Fargo Rating." You also have an optional assigned guess (starter rating) of 525 The preliminary rating people see, 536P, is a weighted blend of these two. It is at this point 40%...

Who built Schuler cues after Ray Schuler passed away, and were they good quality cues?

lol. I walked into Ray's shop in Palatine probably late 1990s--met him and his wife. He got pretty animated talking about deflection, Bob Meucci, shaft tapers, and then I made the mistake of asking if he'd put his joint on a Predator 314 blank. Holy cow, the cigar really started moving then....

Fargo theoretical rating with two players

This is an interesting point. With Maximum likelihood--what we do--the system is just as happy with those two players being at 1200 and 1100 as it is with those players being at 500 and 400. As a result we can get some goofiness. Suppose for instance we have this isolated pair of players with...

Fargo theoretical rating with two players

I put in 200 to 100 and got ratings 524 and 424. I could have instead put in a 10-5 match every day for 20 days. It would have went to 524 and 424 on the first day and then not changed after that.

Fargo theoretical rating with two players

It is none of these. There really is no starting rating or starting point in FargoRate. As you suggest, what the data tells us is only that the players seem near 100 points apart. But we cant tell if they're pros or beginners or somewhere in between. There is, of course, an answer to the...

Curious-Do Fargo ratings differ by location?

Here are the matches from BCAPL/Vegas 8-Ball singles with in each case first player from MT and second player from CA. It is 143 games. The average rating is the same within 2 points for the MT players and for the CA players here. The overall score is MT 72, CA 71

    Matchrooms Concern

Here is a little-known fact. The year Tommy Kennedy went undefeated to win the US Open beating Johnny Archer in the finals, he nearly lost his first-round match trailing Mr. Calvin Coker 11-12 before going on to win. I saw someplace Calvin Coker has a 14.1 high run of 240 or so. His is around...
