APA call at cities. U be the judge

What happened to you was one of the main reasons that I quit APA. The way I see it is that a player won a match fair and square and got robbed by a nit call. The main problem with that league is that there are way too many players trying to win a match by any method. Unfortunantly, I would...

    VNEA at Balley's next year.

Scott, I surely hope we do not have long waits. But it is what it is. Not much I can do about it if there are long waits. However, in my opinion, the staff at the VNEA tournament have always done an admirable job at putting on the tournament in the past. I feel confident that they have...

    VNEA at Balley's next year.

Scott, In the packet we received at registration this year at VNEA, there was a flyer that stated that the VNEA tournament was going to be held at Bally's 2011.

BCA numbers are up - VNEA NUMBERS ARE DOWN

I have played in Vegas for both VNEA and BCA for the past few years and I can't make a statement that I prefer one tournament over the other. There is enough of a difference in the "feel" of the tournaments that keeps me coming back and playing in both. BCA is Bigger, has a pro tournament...

    Players Booted for Gambling?

Just got home from BCAPL in Vegas. While out there I heard from 2 different people that some players were 86'd from the Riv/tournament area for gambling. Would have happened prior to Tuesday A.M. Did anyone actually see this?

What's your take on people that won't gamble?

I don't have a problem with people who only gamble or don't gamble. It is all a matter of personal preference. I do however, have a problem with the people who do not go away after someone has told them No that they do not want to gamble. I wish I had 10 bucks for every-time that I have told...

Packing your cue for the airlines

I use the same set up as above.

    How would you handle this?

He backed out, for whatever reason, so he is liable for his entry fee that you posted for him. Can't blame him for having other responsibilities but that does not get him off from owing you his part of the entry. You may want to give him a pass if you find someone to replace him and they pick...

Anyone changing to separate Jump Cue now that Phenolic is not allowed on Break Cues

I used to use a separate jump and break cue w/leather tip. I then when to a Jump/break cue with Phenolic to save on space in the case. When BCA banned the phenolic tips on break cues I went back to a my older equipment.

Where to eat in Vegas during BCAPL?

For a steak in Vegas Emeril's Delmonico Steakhouse in the Venetian has always been excellent I have eaten there 3 times. Kinda pricey though. For a good Breakfast deal I have had good luck with the graveyard special at Kady's in the Riv. Around 5 bucks for all you can eat flapjacks or ham...

Does anyone make people pay off after every game or every set?

I always pay up after each game and require the same. That is a rule I have followed for the last 25 years ever since the first and last time I had a person fire an air barrel at me and I got stuck with the table time and a worthless IOU.

    Opinions sought

I think I have to side with team B in this case. It is pretty bad, in fact, pathetic if you are having a play off match and end up playing in a location where you have to use a "short" stick to make a shot. This in itself should result in the preclusion of this venue for the match. This of...

    Opinions sought

Is there a problem with team B's location? Seems to me that team B is being reasonable by asking that the match be played at their location seeing that it is available and that the alternate site proposed by A has not been used for league. The alternate might be an unknown to at least some of...

What is the best league system?

Personally, I would offer a BCA league. You can run the league as an in-house league so you will be operating the league and will be able to tailor it to your customers/players wishes. If you have players that want to go play in Vegas they can do that by either "winning a trip" or they can take...

Any Tall guys out there (>6'4")?

I am only 5'-7 but I had a team mate that was 6'-5 or so and played with a 60"+ cue. I would borrow it sometimes rather than using a bridge. His cue was made by Jim Buss and later on he had an OB shaft made for it.

How good does an APA team need to be?

When I was playing APA (stopped 3-4 years ago) Our 8 ball team made it out to Vegas on 2 occasions both times we were eliminated in 65th place. We might have won the matches we got eliminated in if we had gotten some lucky rolls. The team was on the level- Never had anyone raised in handicap...

how to identify a gus szamboti

One question. Earlier posts mentioned Gus wrapped his cues in the opposite direction from everyone else. So I am taking that he normally wrapped them Counter- Clockwise as it is headed to the back end of the cue.

    Historic APA match last night

I think that means that he was the 18th player in that area/franchise. I was in a league here in Houston with a couple of players who were 0002 and 0008.
