    Seconded.

Predator WPA World 8 Ball Championship 2023 (17-22 Oct 2023), Austria, Winner $75K

Agreed. Shane really puts on a clinic. It was a very educational match to watch. If someone wants to learn how to look at and evaluate the table and play patterns in 8-ball then watch Shane. Even against other top pros, he stands apart as someone who really understands the deeper nuances of the...

Predator WPA World 8 Ball Championship 2023 (17-22 Oct 2023), Austria, Winner $75K

I agree that the pace of this tournament is quite slow. Makes it hard as a fan to get into it and stay invested. It's very easy to wander off to other things in my life. The players might appreciate it, though. One nitpick--slow-playing in poker is when someone under bets their hand early to...

That Vietnam crowd is what pool needs more of.

I've always been interested in visiting Vietnam, but after watching this tournament I'm definitely going to make a real effort to get out there at some point. Even if there's no large pool event, having now seen the pool rooms and the city and the people and the sheer vibrancy of it all has...

Matchroom Major event -Hanoi Open (10-15 October),Vietnam, Winner $30K

One thing I've liked about this tournament is how respectfully into the games the crowd is. It seems most tournaments are either morgues or insane asylums (Mosconi Cup). I'm loving the oohs and aahs and cheers from an obviously focused and knowledgeable crowd. It really gets me into the action...

Matchroom Major event -Hanoi Open (10-15 October),Vietnam, Winner $30K

The ref was calling "ten" and "five" for all players, and even for Fedor in that same rack in the middle of shots Fedor made. It's hard to say that's why Fedor missed, although it's impossible to prove one way or another. That said, what an awful way of enforcing a shot clock. Beeps are also...

SJM Final Thoughts on the 2023 US Open

I agree with most of what you said, but I'm not convinced that 4.5" is tight enough for the elite. The recent Connecticut Open demonstrated that. Lots of packages to the point that it got boring--and that was at an (advertised, at least) 4 3/8". I don't know where the line of "too tight"...

SJM Final Thoughts on the 2023 US Open

Great writeup. I particularly agree with the above. I think 4.25" is the perfect medium. Looser pockets means watching rack after rack of bland, rote runouts. Tighter, though, means watching "scared" pool, and only getting relatively rare glimpses of all the weapons that are in a true...

    Dimond ball cleaner RPM

Maybe not necessary for your home use, but it may be for others. I have a table which 99% of the time is just me playing. I only use taom chalk so nothing really gets on the cloth (my hands are still spotless even after extended sessions). I vacuum regularly. But I ended up getting a polisher...

    New predator chalk

People who think Taom or any particular chalk will make them play better are kidding themselves. That said, I use Taom and would pay $50/piece if I had to. Why? It's so darn clean. No washing my hands every 45 minutes, or making my shaft gritty. No spending all that time cleaning my table. I get...

    CueLee's Connecticut 9-Ball Open @ US1 Billiards, Sep 22+23

I think Fargo is designed so a 3:1 advantage is a 160-point difference. He's not quite at 3:1 so call it 140-150. That puts him 920+ given his opponents. I am as excited by his potential as anyone. But methinks he'll come back to earth at some point (even if it isn't this tournament).

    CueLee's Connecticut 9-Ball Open @ US1 Billiards, Sep 22+23

Agreed. Watching these matches it's clear the same break that all but guarantees the 1 in the side also sends the cueball back toward the 9 for a freeroll on the game. If that's what they want (quicker sets, more opportunities for the ever-exciting "golden break") then fine...but if not they'll...

    CueLee's Connecticut 9-Ball Open @ US1 Billiards, Sep 22+23

The announcers couldn't quite remember by the end of the set and thought he ended on a 7-pack. At one point they were asking the chat denizens what had happened in the earlier racks. I'm guessing someone with the keys to the Matchroom FB page just relayed the erroneous conclusion the announcers...

    CueLee's Connecticut 9-Ball Open @ US1 Billiards, Sep 22+23

SVB ended with a 6-pack. Lee Van got to the table for a brief safety battle in rack 3, then got one swerve shot he didn't quite make in rack 4. So three shots total, 0 balls pocketed.

    CueLee's Connecticut 9-Ball Open @ US1 Billiards, Sep 22+23

I also am really digging the split view. One thing I've never really liked is a tournament that transitions from double-elimination to single-elimination. Then you have someone who has lost a match eliminating someone else who hadn't lost already. It just doesn't feel right. I do understand...

If those tables retail for 5k, Rasson is poised to make a serious try at the US market. If they play half as good as they look, they'll be quite popular.

The best video of a Carbon Fiber shafts deflection testing with a robot arm

Interesting video. Did they only do one trial per shaft/cue ball location (center/left)? I imagine they'd see differences with the same settings on the same shaft, so it would be more instructive to see a set of results for each combination. Also, they appeared to have different speeds for each...
