2025 Reyes Cup, Oct 16-19, Manilla. Team Asia vs Team World

There are two, intermittently blocked by a large camera arm and by support structures for the lights/overhead camera. However, even so, I can watch the match on TV from my living room.

The arena is also not conducive to spectating pool. Not many close seats. I have VIP tickets and I'm still farther away than any other pool event I've ever attended. Most remotely reasonable seats are taken. Anyone else attending would need binoculars.

I'd argue the coach's job was done once the teams were selected. It's not like he's going to revamp a pro player's stroke on the fly at the last minute. The only thing a coach can do is manage egos and personalities. So unless there's some evidence that JJ is messing with the team's psyches...

No replays live, either. Would love to have seen it. Lots of confused fans here. Anyone replaying it in the stream to confirm?

Anyone know the biggest comeback in Mosconi Cup history? Wondering when I should start trying to find something else to do.

2025 Reyes Cup, Oct 16-19, Manilla. Team Asia vs Team World

Disappointing day for the ROW portion of the crowd. Manas certainly really showed what he can do. And the crowd showed why he was picked: he got the largest ovation, by far, of any player during introductions, and was the only one to get his name chanted by the crowd, which happened on multiple...

A new measure of tournament toughness: Harmonic Field Strength

How much does the extra round impact the 750 player in a pro tournament? How much does an extra round affect a league player playing in a tournament division of hundreds of players with 40-50 point spread between highest and lowest? Again, the only numbers you supplied were for the top players...

A new measure of tournament toughness: Harmonic Field Strength

A few things: 1) 48.6% is still less than 50% 2) no tournament is a bunch of exactly-800 players and a bunch of exactly-700 players. In fields like we are discussing there are multiples in each set of 10. #65 is likely 1-2 points behind number 64. In fact, in a big field, I wouldn't be...

A new measure of tournament toughness: Harmonic Field Strength

I'm a big fan of the prospect of ranking tournament toughness. I'm a bit skeptical of the presented method. The value of top players seems to drop off rather sharply. More importantly, completely throwing away the bottom players, 65+, seems rather extreme. Just for example, in the Hanoi there...

And in the Yapp case, there likely was no foul.

Agreed. Call them manager or coach. Captain or playing captain for the players you want to designate as such.

2025 Reyes Cup, Oct 16-19, Manilla. Team Asia vs Team World

Looking forward to a battle between the top 5 most marketable players on each side who decided to play in the Hanoi open! Sarcasm aside, unless the final choices are out of left field, each team will have four superb players who are all very deserving, and I'm excited to watch.

Somehow it's hotter than any previous day. More crowd (or, at least more concentrated) but significantly fewer players. Not sure that's enough for how it feels. I'm uncomfortable sitting here. Can't imagine what it's like for the players.

To the surprise of no one, Shaw and Hoang have been named to their respective Reyes cup teams.

Yes. Yesterday in particular was a wet, rainy day, and I've never been anywhere near as humid (and I've been to Alabama, amongst many other places!).

Is Emily ultimately responsible for the product Matchroom puts on display? If so, it is most definitely a management issue. If her head ref is incapable of making correct calls then she absolutely needs to be correcting that in one way or another. Related to waxgate, one thing I noticed in...

WNT Hanoi Open 2025, Vietnam, Oct 7-12

They went to the video. There must have been at least 5 mins, maybe close to 10 mins of deliberation on Marcel's part. It was truly bizarre. Everyone around me watched the replays on the screen and thought it was a foul. Everyone, that is, except for apparently Marcel. And that includes the ref...

Marcel has made other bad calls and does not appear to be learning or getting trained at any point. Why should we assume this time it's different?

WNT Hanoi Open 2025, Vietnam, Oct 7-12

I can only guess: 1) it's getting late 2) no more vietnamese left in the tournament 3) no more Fedor #2 is probably the big one. There was a big crowd earlier today.
