    Jump Cues ☠️

Pretty sure it isn’t legal in most or all rule sets. Ones I have seen are 40”. Check the ones you play under.

Brothers Billiards, new kind of pool room.

I went through Billings in June and only got a brief chance to check out Brothers. They did a great job on that room. I hit a few on the carom table RKC did. That table plays nice. 100+ years old no heater - plays excellent. On that trip I hit Fargo Billiards, Slate in St Paul, and the two...

    Fargo 700 Tournament

I actually think it maybe could work but not for either double or single elimination. Debate tournaments do what they call power matching. The format is a number of preliminary rounds - 6 generally I think- then a single elimination bracket, the size of which depends on the size of the...

    Pat Fleming....Ok????

It’s been a while now, but I once played poker with a guy from Yaak MT. He was an old guy who looked good for his age. Mentally sharp, drank whiskey, looked strong, having a good time at the casino. He asked us to guess his age. I knew he was older than he looked. So guessed maybe 70. A...

What do you think would happen if there were no handicaps, in any leagues or tournaments, and all tournaments were Open to all skill levels?

I think there’s more to it than that. Like in a tournament where you get games on the wire, maybe you get to hill- hill against the better player. You get the experience of playing that game in that situation. And maybe you learn something or find a way to deal with the pressure. Likewise, the...

What do you think would happen if there were no handicaps, in any leagues or tournaments, and all tournaments were Open to all skill levels?

There is a third group. Those who quit. You don’t want to drive people from the game. Neither do you want to gear everything to those who would have quit. Ideally there is a range of events. If the players who can’t win are playing leagues and small tournaments it is good for the game...

What do you think would happen if there were no handicaps, in any leagues or tournaments, and all tournaments were Open to all skill levels?

I am totally willing to play a great player with no chance of winning. I have done it and I am sure I will have occasion to do it again. I don’t mind donating to the cause and like to see what they can do up close. And one of the great things about pool is the players are accessible. As the...

    44 Breaks & Only 3 Chances

I have decided not to respond to the OP anymore because of this. He can ignore this or take it as constructive. I decided not to make sarcastic or biting comments either. The OP doesn’t like them but maybe can’t see a relationship between what he posts and the responses they provoke. I don’t...

Conveniently enough, I don’t like riding them. 😁. But if I did like riding them I might do that.

    Pat Fleming....Ok????

Yeah, that’s the irony. But I know active people who have been seriously hurt on their bikes. I don’t know of any who were hurt bad on their stationary bike, elliptical etc…. I am getting older and need to be in better shape etc… but it won’t be from riding a bike on the road. The bad injuries...

Nah, I like annoying the avoid luck at all costs crowd. 😜. But seriously top players don’t risk de the cheese. The occasional fluke? That’s life.

    Pat Fleming....Ok????

I might lower the number. I was talking about it with my wife. We talked of the surprising number of middle age + people we know who have been seriously hurt on bikes. Some of the ones we know of could have been worse. I like to drive to the pool hall myself. 😉

While I don’t love 10 ball, a good part of it is the rules. The best form of it is what you propose. Seeing SVB hit a hard break from towards center table and run them is a good thing.

Yeah, I like one pocket too. Prefer watching it to 9 ball. But I like the differences in the games and don’t want to make 9 ball like one pocket. You get the worst of both worlds when you do it IMO.

    China Open

The game is plenty challenging enough to differentiate. But it won’t differentiate in one or two racks. It won’t necessarily differentiate in one set. It generally differentiates in a tournament, even a weekend bar box event. Funny how I played as dead money in a Lucasi Tour event on the bar...

You can't tell the difference between very good vs great players in many things by watching a small sample. I also don't think Shane was necessarily saying nine ball would be better with different rules. I don't know what he thinks on that. I do like what he said about 8 ball. I like...

    China Open

There’s a different outlook or attitude. I don’t see how scary straight shooting is boring. I admire it. Some might envy it at some level and then want to tear it down because they can’t do it. I can’t say you have that attitude, I am disagreeing not judging. People generally overestimate the...

    China Open

You are in the minority on this one for a reason. If you like strategy, watch and play one pocket. It is more strategic and more interesting than defensive oriented rotation IMO. Short rack rotation games are supposed to be ball running games. Push after the break is like putting speed bumps...
