Pool is definitely a better spectator sport. I live 15 minutes from the National and usually turn down tickets. You can't see anything and the players are in their own world during the tournament. TV is the only way to watch golf. Several weeks ago, I went to a local room and saw Larry Neville...

Luck is more of an issue when weaker players are involved. How many times have you played a relatively weak player who hooks you every time they miss? But when they make a ball, everything clears out for the run. Also, luck plays a big part on the break. Sometimes, you hit the rack perfectly...

If I had my table apart, I'd be putting new Simonis on it. The only additional cost would be the price of the cloth. :cool:

Good post. We're on the same page. Poor service, mediocre equipment, obnoxious music, and the worst, smoke you can cut with a knife. At my house, I have a nice table with Simonis 860, cold beer, clean surroundings, and nice music piped in from Pandora to my Bose speakers. And add to that, fewer...

Not a big fan of linen myself. I read somewhere that linen was first used to cover cheaper wood in the handle as a way to keep cost down. May be urban legend though. :cool:

Yes they are. IMO, they're even worse than LePro's. I've stopped installing them. Can't make any money when it takes 3-4 tries to get a good one. Plus, they're hell on cutting tools. QA appears to be non existent for these tips. I have a couple of customers who are begging for good soft tips...

I think the Mottey's will stand the test of time. And my guess is that most current cues would play better than the original Balabushka's simply due to modern materials and technology. But I sure wouldn't mind owning an original 'bushka... :cool:

Bought a new 2 X 4 case on eBay a couple of months ago for $120. It has a stand like a golf bag. You pop the stand out, the case sits at about a 30 degree angle, and you have a nice safe place to hold your cues when you're playing. Obviously, it's not leather but it's a very nice looking sturdy...

I've heard they hold their shape better than the Moori. They certainly cut differently on the lathe. The edges feel harder. I'll know more in a week or so. :cool:

Thanks for the feedback. I'm interested in what my customer has to say after a few days. He's pretty picky about tips and I like to use him as my "beta" tester. :cool:

Bad air quality, questionable clientele, crappy tables, poor service, loud obnoxious music, broken bathrooms, dirty surroundings, etc, etc. I'm an older guy with disposable income and there's not a single room in my area that's upscale. I'm looking for clean surroundings, excellent well...

Just installed a Wizard soft. Looks a lot like a Moori III but cuts and shapes differently. It was a pleasure to install and the customer loves it. I hit a few with it and it felt pretty good to me. I'm interested in other user's opinions. :cool:

I'm really surprised that aren't more eye injuries in pool rooms. Most of the pool players I see on league night are oblivious to anything going on in their immediate vicinity. How many times are you setting up on a critical shot and some nitwit decides to rack the balls right behind you? :frown:

I haven't actually tried this test but here goes. Let's say you have a brand new shaft that is perfectly straight. Meaning that a line will run perfectly straight from the center of the insert through the center of the ferrule and will be in the center of the shaft at every point along the way...
