Are rail sights in the correct place? Should the gutter line be 2:1 rather than the cushion nose?

Depends on the approach angle whether you aim to the diamond or opposite. So now we would need 2 sets of sights. IMO pool tables play short anyway. maybe the 2:1 kick comes out close, but as Eddies says, better to get a feel for the table.

Interesting. What does your colleague say to do?

New to me Gold Crown II

Hope this doesn't derail the OP's thread. What was the purpose of pinned slates? Simply alignment along the length of the table? I've seen cut off pins.

    Lathe for tips

At a minimum to have something easier than doing by hand. I just do it by hand even though there's 3 good tip guys in my area. By the time I drop off a shaft and drive back home, I could install at least 6 tips on my kitchen counter.

Should Cuemakers show Their Cuemaker Tree Diagram???

Maybe you're right, but from my point of view, I'd like to know just for the History. Where did Rambow learn. Did he have any guidance in cue building or did he just figure things out. Was there anyone that coached him in woodworking? or did he just figure things out. Maybe the answers are...

    poolroom etiquette

Played a tournament in Decatur, IL years ago. Deno Andrews vs a local really good player. Ashby, Byrnes, Bill (the Hawk) Hawkins was of course in it, and others. Deno's opponent kept leaving his chalk on the table. After a while, Deno would put it somewhere close where it could be found...

    poolroom etiquette

Read most of the story and skimmed much. If this was me I'd have to find another room. Might be tough for you. This kind of BS is what led me to 3Cushion To answer your final question. There are unwritten rules. Basically respect your opponent and those around your within earshot. Common...

The DIAMOND SYSTEM You Must Know … And How to Make it Better

Guess I gotta try the 8-4 shot even though 4 is IMO past the tit. Basic teaching in 3C says without getting into too much, if you're laying somewhat closer to 90degrees to the rail, like on 2, you aim opposite the diamond. If much greater angle, like 8-4 or maybe even 5- 2-1/2 you aim at the...

You get what you pay for!

My last comment. Isn't this (in Bold) what you said Old People do. I'm an old people but I'm still listening when it comes to mechanic'n for all trades. I also teach certain areas of mechanic'n. Of course normally my way only.

You get what you pay for!

I'm thinking he only watched the first part where the rail cloth is sprayed.... With the rails laid out on the table that's covered and didn't realize the bed cloth is old cloth. For RKC: Another assumption concerning the "place for Dust to go" My assumptions is he's talking about chalk dust...

A little exercise to test a 'straight-in' short shot with control of the CB

Sure does, but we're 10' away not 3 or 4. Love watching balkline. Spent 30mins playing one time, way too hard. Most folks think 3C is the hardest game... Maybe it is, but, I disagree, balkline, straight rail, 1rail.. demand way more precision IMO to run 100balkline or 1000 caroms. This I...

    Pool Table on Wheels/Casters

I wanted to move my table a few inches from a wall since my main competitor uses a long cue. My mechanic said all I need is a pallet jack, those paver bricks laying against the house and a couple of 2x4's to protect the table.. Easy Peasy for just just moving out of the way. My table is...

Got a fixer-upper for my first pool table, looking for guidance

Used to sell sandpaper to Playmaster about 30+ years ago. Can't remember the town? Wellsville? You Mechanics might remember... They also had a factory nearby that manufactured leather pockets. Good old days? Good days learning how not to sell. Now I remember, it was Bland, MO. =

Pro Pool vs Pro Golf TV Productions

Watching golf on TV, you get to see the swing+ all the emotion. And of course the Result. Pool?? Not so much. Sometimes you see the player line up and get set, Then the camera shifts to a close up of the cue tip, then just before the stroke the camera shifts to a close up on the intended...
