Stories about the first time talent was recognized?

Several of us saw a young boy, maybe 10 or 12 with incredible talent. Our Organization and several others supported him and his father. Yura loaned him a table for as long as he perused the game. Money was raised and instructors contacted to get him to the World Junior 3-Cushion Championships...

experiment on point and veneer alignment

I'm not a cue builder but I was shown from a good builder on method for adjusting points. He grabbed a pack of Rolling Papers, which were always handy, and slipped one between the jaws and cue. One paper thickness moved the culprit a fair bit. Kinda thinking this could become a chase your tail...

You should watch the whole video but start at 17:40 to get an idea of the pattern. These guys are calibrating a granite surface plate used in a metrology lab where near perfect is required.

    Guys who never sell cues

Some are keepers. When I buy a cue, I plan on keeping it. Forever! Regret selling all the cues I once owned. They all went cause I was broke.

Do you know of players who had such Natural Talent, that they could have been a World Champion?

I came into this discussion late, and haven't read through this at all. My take is, I've seen plenty of people with talent that could possibly develop into a World Champion. I've seen super talented players that beat most that came to town. These players didn't have the ambition for a World...

    New cloth effects on banks?

I'm just guessing since I haven't played on new cloth in decades. My guess is a simple cross side shot, say ob is 1diamond from opposite pocket there wouldn't be a change. If you're hitting a 3, 4 or 5 rail bank or even a long cross corner shot, I would expect it to go long. Especially if you...

Does cleaning pool balls with clothes detergent & 3-M Scotchbright green-side sponge damage the balls?

Gr Great vid and he answered all my objections throughout, except, I don't like the balls rubbing together. I don't know if that's a real problem or not. It just seems to be for me. That said, this design is 10,000% better than nothing and eliminates hand cleaning Easy and Cheap. I"m lucky...

Does cleaning pool balls with clothes detergent & 3-M Scotchbright green-side sponge damage the balls?

"Polishing Compound" works well on scratched balls. I used it for years till I bought a machine. Use a damp terrycloth rag. Do not use "Rubbing Compound!" McGuires PlastX is good stuff. Less aggressive than Polishing Compound. There's other plastic cleaners that work well too but this is...

Old Billiard (Carom) Table Cushion Replacment, updated.

I'll let the Pro Mechanics answer the rubber question. But on my old 1920's Brunswick I purchased Kleber rubber and hired a cabinet maker to modify the angle on rail to comply with European style 4 sided rubber. I'll search around to find the instructions ,from Bob Leatherby. I may have lost...

    Light vs heavy cue

Working with torque tools and torque calibration equipment for a few decades, I believe your statement isn't 100% accurate. Simply explained: In order to calibrate a torque wrench, the wrench is loaded on a mechanical device called a Loader. The Loader is connected to a torque transducer which...

How long would it be ok to leave cue in car in hot humid weather?

I would never, ever, leave my cue for 2hours in 100deg temps. I suppose if I had a $100 cue it wouldn't matter much. I don't own anything like that. I take care of my cues, like I take care of my dog.
