I've never heard of threading the core. 11" + is a long way to cut threads.

I think you are confusing invorene 3 and 4. 4 was unusable but 3 was probably the best non ivory ferrule ever created.

I agree with the bastard joints but don't consider the 3/8-11 to be one since you can thread it with a standard 60 degree cutter on most any lathe.

JMHO a flat bottom pin will offer no difference in performance than a properly installed V bottom pin.

Put a pad under the tip.
