Ferrule is threaded on so it will look that way (plane through helix gives that illusion). McD used to use ivorene. Not sure if they still do. Ivorene III is one of the finest (if not the finest) ferrule material ever. Ivorene IV..............not so much.

Here is a set I did back in 2000 or so. His has purpleheart rings and hers has pink ivory.

I hate to see a machine that clean. Send it to me. I have plenty of things to do that would dirty it right up.

I've done several solid Juma joints in both flat face and piloted configurations and have been happy with the results. Like most joints if you put a piece of tape over it.........................nevermind................I'm not going down that road again.

I hate tapping ferrules (or anything else). If I did not have live tooling I would just buy them already made (but I don't like 5/16-18 for most applications). Royce was spot on with his advice. Drill, tap and then part off to length. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R1MZQKgXJw&feature=g-upl
