there are only two kinds of cues to own.

What sense is it to own a cue for any purpose and not play it- at least to some degree? Perhaps the most important quality of any cue is the cue's playability features. Playing with any cue for a few hours just to understand the cue maker's mark of distinction should not detract at all from value.

The Hustler -- opening scene bank shot

IMO - a truly great opening scene choice to set the stage for this great movie- go forward to the great western The Magnificent Seven - where there were several opening scenes, that also set the stage for a great movie, esp. James Coburn as the knife throwing cowboy.

    Vintage round case id help

Those were 60s into 70s cases - for the most part - you could still buy them new into the 80s / the round case versions that were cut in half and side hinged we’re known as coffin cases. Coffin cases could hold 60 inch cues.

    Back in the old days.

Guys were just not as tall from 1900 to the 1960s in general and a 57 inch cue was probably an ideal cue length at the time. I am 5 foot 9 and a 57 inch cue always felt better in my hands in terms of overall balance.

    Left vs Right Brain

I believe 100% that some people are much more logic oriented and others are much more visual/spatial/ creative/artistic oriented. Personally I definitely am all logic and have very little artistic sense. I think that the variances come into play in pool when planning position routes, in all...

    Conversion Cues by Unknown Makers

My son found 2 1950s one piece titilist - we had both converted -about 3 years ago at about $350 each - no additional inlays - total with original titilist purchase came to $450 each - new shafts included - I just don’t get the $1000 price tags - but to each his own.

    Traditional wood shafts making comeback?

I only use wood shafts - they just feel more natural in so many ways - I don’t want to be perfect bc of my equipment - I seek perfection because I earned it respecting tradition . Some choices in life just should not be technology driven - I like it that way!

    Wrap Q

I have found that Leather wraps do not do a good job of sweat absorption and always prefer a very good, reasonably tacky feeling linen wrap. Some linen wraps are too slick and the wax paper trick is a very temporary fix for that. Some, NOT ALL, leather wrap cue handle channels are too deep to...

Are Gold Crowns Still Being "Diamondized?"

I am firm believer in 4 3/4 inch pockets for the person who has a home table and would like a table enjoyable for all family members, friends, and casual match play. A very, very small percentage of people who play this game actually would enjoy a table with small pockets. The people on this...

Current opinions of an old Gold Crown vs Fiamond

I play sometimes on my son's Anniversary. I started playing pool on GC1s in the later 1960s. I have played on Diamonds- Red and Blue- I will take the vintage Brunswick all day long - and just the way they came out of the factory - I just think that those Brunswick's epitomized pool as it was...

    Downey custom cue

I purchased my second Troy Downey cue from an AZ member here this week. I received the cue, model DCC074 on the Mueller's Billiards site, and, again, I say that Troy Downey cues, TODAY, IMO, are the very best constructed, and playing cues -- for the money- of any cue maker - and I have...

    Rug or no Rug?

High quality, appropriate design indoor / outdoor low nap carpeting worked for me in a finished basement setting billiard area when I had home tables for 25 years. In the main part of the house, the carpet/ no carpet decision should be based on the main home's general flooring decor - if one...

What so great about Westinghouse Micarta?

Well if it were Predator today offering Micarta for their ferrules I would imagine they would market it as a revolutionary ferrule material that assists the directional line of the cue ball to the desired aim point on the object ball - and add $100 to Micarta ferrule Predator cues😁😁
