Old timer short bridge hand length

Those guys played mostly on close to 5 inch pockets - Diamond tables changed everything about who was great and who was not- I think that the Europeans figured this all out first.

Old timer short bridge hand length

Agreed - the only way these top top players can control the CB on super fast tables for rotation games is to have a longer bridge stroke that imparts more reverse braking action on the CB for most of their shots. It is an art that they learn to master and it gives them the edge needed in...

    Carbon, back to wood...

So CF requires more speed adjustment and wood requires more aim adjustment - it all adds up even when you play with one or the other all the time.

    Carbon, back to wood...

For me it is the tradition and also the natural feeling of playing with wood - if you play enough then you will know where to contact the OB on any shot with any shaft - old time greats are proof of this reality. Common sense tells us that no shaft aims itself . People seeking perfect pool...

Cue & Shaft Construction - Do You Care?

I did not know that my plain maple shaft was “inconsistent” - funny- all these years I blamed just myself when I missed- I guess thatI should join the “no responsibility” generation😁

Cue & Shaft Construction - Do You Care?

Some people - like me - have a passion about almost every aspect of the game. For me this includes cue collecting and cue building appreciation. So , yes , I am keenly interested in every aspect of how a master cue maker combines all of their skills to create a playing masterpiece that looks...

Rack It Up or Pack It Up?

Someday it will be cool again to play this game. There is an aspect of it that will stand the test of time. Perhaps even the addition of medical revelations of how the game’s mental demands can help reduce ADD symptoms in youth and mental deterioration in the elderly populations. From the...

I always try to track down ownership history on my more upscale prior owned cues - the stories behind some cues add much to the hobby of collecting the cues themselves. With the old Rambow cues; where the owner's names are inscribed on the cue by HR; it is interesting to do internet searches on...

Id on a 2x2 case? Possible O'Neil or a Palmer?

Palmer cue cases were not made by O’Neil - at least on the 60s and 70s they were made by a company in Brooklyn NY called Fine Brothers.

Id on a 2x2 case? Possible O'Neil or a Palmer?

I don't think Palmer bc of the double metal bands. I would also think O'Neil

I know as fact that many times for guys who ordered cues from George whom he knew were avid players in the general NYC vicinity that George would take subways , buses, and cabs at times to hand deliver the cue to the player at the pool room for cash - the cues were wrapped in brown paper and...

One of the few collectibles that you just look at are paintings - IMO - I played with every cue that I owned to some degree - I just can’t imagine only casing a cue for life.

Who You Got? Mike Sigel or Nick Varner

Here is how I look at it. Mike and Nick had pool playing skills that would be very difficult to lay any odds other than 50/50. Mike's one differentiating feature was his willingness to shoot the shot that made the difference in a game and often in a match that perhaps much more often Nick would...

Don't forget- GB was gone by 1975- his cues were still in demand, but pool rooms had closed by the hundreds each year from 68 to 75. The future in cue making would not have looked as bright as it would for Gus Szamboti's son, since Gus passed about 1988 and the resurgence due to the COM movie...

Opinions regarding a former top pro playing in and dominating a Poolroom‘s weekly handicapped tournament?

The plain truth is that when you have a very dominant player vs. a much less skilled player- the less skilled player almost never gets to table situations that will help make them battle ready - when you are getting crushed you learn nothing in terms of close match/ critical shot nerve management.

Opinions regarding a former top pro playing in and dominating a Poolroom‘s weekly handicapped tournament?

We are in the age of the internet- you do not learn anything losing your money in a no win situation that you could not learn by just watching the pros on u tube. The days of having to lose money to learn in pool are over- have been for a long time. 99% of the time, people getting beat badly...

    Pocket Sizes Pros 4.25

A level Diamond table with new Simonis, perfect lighting, new quality balls and controlled climate conditions that has 4 1/2 corner pockets will play very different than a Diamond in a room that is neglected with worn cloth, poor lighting, crappy, un clean balls and poor climate control. Some...

after 18years and 2 months my southwest order is NOW - recommendations on shaft taper?

I think that in the realm of custom cue makers- for me anyhow- I always want to see how a cue plays as the cue maker intended- at least when it comes out of the shop. A name like Southwest with their reputation and price point, I personally would elect to have the shaft taper come to me as they...

    "Big" Cue Collectors

There is no such place as a pool room where the main ingredient is people who go there to play bc they own high end cues. Secondly, investing and collecting are two different categories- you collect out of passion, you invest bc you want to make money- those are two completely separate and in...
