Is Karl Boyes à complete moron?

When I watched that video, I noticed he described some things in ways I would have considered different if not outright inaccurate. Creating a thread just to call out those differences is a bit pedantic and to suggest he might be a complete moron comes off as high self aggrandizing, like you’re...

    Ultimate Pool Louisiana Open

I think everyone's hopeful he's coming back between this and the action match with Bustamante. But I wonder if there's no point getting our hopes up. This could just be serendipity that both events only required him to drive a couple hours and perhaps has no bearing on his participation in the...

    BRIDGE LENGTH Effects and Considerations

What's wild is watching snooker players do a highly accurate deep screw back shot... and their cue shaft jumps off their bridge hand. It's like that sense of precision and control we seek with a closed bridge is absolutely meaningless to the execution of their shots.

    BRIDGE LENGTH Effects and Considerations

It’s funny. I played half my life ingrained to use the closed bridge. I adopted the open bridge while I was making a concerted effort to improve. I use open bridge for the vast majority of my shots (any and all uses of English). But I have noticed that sometimes I have a closed bridge. I...

    Pool on tv tonight.

It's a re-air from August 23rd, 2023 from The Ocho. It was hyped high because it's "pool on TV via ESPN" and was a hefty flop.

Kick safe off the break or roll out

I prefer kicking into a safe. Often I’ll push out if the kick is too hard to make contact or to get separation, in which I’ll push into an easier kick. I’m terrible at jumping so I don’t ever push into a jump.

    "Clean" 8 Ball

Well. When you demonstrate a certain savoir-faire in front of the knuckle draggers they have no choice but to assume you know what you’re saying. Especially if you’ve already strung together more than 4 balls in a run.

    "Clean" 8 Ball

In those scenarios I just confidently say “contacting either rail connected to the pocket is considered incidental and doesn’t count”, borrowing from the vernacular of bank pool.

    Lag Foul at the EC

No. The refs would have said the first offender determined the outcome. And if Josh refused to accept the ruling and tried to force the lag, the ref would turn around and slap him with an unsportsmanlike. And since that would be undermining a ruling, it would likely be a loss of game penalty.

    Lag Foul at the EC

I don’t think it is a rule. I think it’s a strict interpretation of the rules. An interpretation incongruent with the traditions of the game. Because the WPA rules aren’t explicit a player can’t move the balls, but it’s also not explicit they can. It is just descriptive of the process for...

Did Mark Wilson finally kill "aiming systems" ?

That’s how I look at it. Everyone has an approach to aiming. It might be a numeric system. It might be a geometric system. It might be a visual system. Or something else. But everybody has a way of aiming and as far as I’m concerned, that is their aiming system. Nobody shoots pool...

Did Mark Wilson finally kill "aiming systems" ?

Funny. One of the best local pool players I’ve known was a bit of a road player and vagabond at times. He said if he wasn’t able to play he’d just stroke at the kitchen table to keep his arm in gear.

Did Mark Wilson finally kill "aiming systems" ?

I also want to add we sometimes say things like “stumble upon” or “naturally gravitate to” for people that have put in a degree of table time we can’t fathom. Enough so I would suggest it’s not an accident they land where they land. They put in the work to get there.

    Interesting website and oversight.

I think you lost the plot. They fumbled the ball on internet branding a long time ago. That’s why their website is POOLPLAYERS.COM It’s not a terrible domain to have. But nobody is flocking to stumble across that either. There is nothing “APA” about it. Which can lead their visitors to...

    I got game.

WHOA! Is the premise of this thread that someone had a good deal on a table and the effort of sharing a picture of it took 9.5 years? That is perseverance if I’ve ever seen it. Photographs by Southwest (tm)

WPA Ban- Biado & others will be banned after World 8 Ball Championship

I thought the materials the APBU put out told a pretty clear story of why they were kicked out. They became very vocal about some concerns with the WPA and certain travel expenditures of Ian Anderson. They were demanding financial statements. They became a noisy member and I assume Ian had...

Did Mark Wilson finally kill "aiming systems" ?

I feel like a number of fundamentals have to come together. I agree that a bad stroke undermines everything else. But you wouldn’t say that kills the importance of picking patterns, addressing problems and managing angles. It also doesn’t kill the importance of aiming. You need to find the...

    9 ball spotting question

I think a big factor for the world 9-ball is the addition of the break box. But the WPA / EPBF event I was referring to, the Dynamic Billard Sankt Johann Im Pongau open 2024, I think you’d see without the break box that percentage changes. Especially with those tapped balls rather than a template.

    9 ball spotting question

The tables are tapped. It clearly isn’t 1 on the spot. Might be a little lower than 9 on the spot, I couldn’t tell. But I assume it must be. The players are racking for themselves so there could be a little racksmithing involved. That or a certain sidespin or pop is making that happen.

    9 ball spotting question

The strong pros were. A lot like this. And then of course a little luck on whether another ball gets between the CB and 1B or not. https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxYuh_9lDiCG3H7qx_KUSa5bKr334TLRCh?si=aJNPgiVvib8P-qYz
