A review of the Perfect Aim method (in several installments)

A review of the Perfect Aim method (installment 2) Hello again, I spent more time trying to use the Perfect Aim method, and I may be warming up to it (slowly). The main problem I have when I try to apply is is, it requires to know how much of the object ball is hidden by the cueball, to line...

Do other players rub off on you

I played a guy in our club this evening. He wants so bad to play straight pool, but he's a complete beginner. The guy couldn't sink 3 balls in a row if his life depended on it. When he does, it's a major feat for him. He's a nice enough guy, and he tries really hard, so I played with him. But...

WPA Rule question: BIH anywhere in 8 Ball?

I do as the rules say :) If anybody has issues with BIH anywhere on the table after the break, I whip out my rule book and lecture them. If they're still not happy, I tell them they should have proposed their rules before playing, we should have agreed on them, and they can go play somebody...

WPA Rule question: BIH anywhere in 8 Ball?

If you scratch on the break, your opponent has ball in hand behind the head string and must shoot a ball on the other side (EDIT: I meant the cueball must pass the headstring then hit a ball). During the rest of the game, fouls result in ball in hand anywhere on the table.

A review of Keller's Pro Justa Bridge

Very interesting, especially the use Larry Keller makes of the center hole, with the cue's butt on the table. I'll have to try that. Thanks!

What do you hate and love in the design of a cue?

Funny nobody seems to mention it so far, but... what I like primarily is a cue designed to play well. The rest is secondary. I might buy an ugly cue if it feels better than a nice-looking one. This said, visually I prefer very simple cues made of 2 or 3 woods, without points, rings or inlays...

A review of the Perfect Aim method (in several installments)

Don't be disingenuous, you know full well you'd need a whole lot of DVDs to cover all that in-depth :) Gene's DVD proposes a way of lining up your eye over the cue to see shots better. That's the main point of the video. The aiming methods he describes with the DVD aren't "on the side", they...

Left Hand Bridge / Right Hand Dominant

The man is right. I always scratch my head when I see a player take the bridge to play a side shot, or worse, play behind their back.

    Never playing 9-ball again!!!

My point with the flipping coin example is that, in chaotic systems, what you do at the beginning bears such weight in the outcome that the outcome becomes highly unpredictable. Now, I never said 9-ball is a random game. If you go for an incredibly unlikely carom shot, you still aim somewhere...

What's going on with this type of carom shot?

Indeed you are correct. I redid some experimenting with more cautious placements of the balls, and the intended object ball indeed seem to be "thrown" forward a little, opening up the angle a bit. Just like the second object ball it is frozen to in fact, so one might say the angle of the paths...

    Never playing 9-ball again!!!

While this is formally true, you misunderstand what randomness is. When you flip a coin, *you* throw the coin, *you* determine how its spins in the air, yet when it lands, over time, you get a probability of 0.5 for heads and 0.5 for tails, no matter what you do. When you play pool, after a...

    Gene Albrecht's "Perfect Aim"

A review of the Perfect Aim method (installment 1) Hello everybody, As some of you may know if you have followed this thread, Gene, the author of the Perfect Aim method sent me his DVD for review. First of all, I want to thank Gene for taking the trouble of sending the DVD, especially since I...

A review of the Perfect Aim method (in several installments)

Oh bummer, I didn't see the "review" section. Indeed it makes more sense. I will re-post my initial post there. Thanks for pointing this out. I will post the follow-ups there too.

A review of the Perfect Aim method (in several installments)

Thanks. But bear in ming, at the risk of repeating myself, this is only a first impression. I want to give Gene's method more time, possibly with Gene's help. I have no intention of dismissing his method considering the number of good feedbacks on his site, and the fact that he believes in it...

Hello everybody, As some of you may know if you have followed this thread, Gene, the author of the Perfect Aim method sent me his DVD for review. First of all, I want to thank Gene for taking the trouble of sending the DVD, especially since I live in ole Europe, and for letting me cast a...

    Just had to say it

I couldn't. We had arrived late already, I was the last of the team to finish playing, and the guys proceeded to pack up immediately after I ran the last ball. That run surprised me. I was in top form yesterday (I also beat the same guy 5-0 at 9-ball an hour before, I guess it was a bad night...

    Just had to say it

I know this isn't particularly impressive for many of you, but I have to announce it: I went play a minor league game tonight, and I beat a guy 40-0. He broke, I ran out. End of story :) His face when I shot the last ball was priceless. Feels good...

    Never playing 9-ball again!!!

Same here. I hate this game with a passion. It's not as if I can't beat most players in my neck of the woods at it, it's just that, when my opponent breaks and sinks the 9, or plays like crap and sinks the 9, or some other lucky instant game-over shot, and looks up with that stupid grin on his...

Which one? Joe Porpers Cue Holder vs Cue claw

Neither. Make your own, it'll work much better and for cheaper: DIY ghetto cue holder

The Baron and the Kid - decent pool movie!

People seem to have very polarized opinions of Poolhall Junkies. Personally, I think it's an excellent pool movie. If it didn't have those stilted Adam Sandler-like scenes with the teenagers (who don't have much to bring to the story in general), I reckon it'd be right up there with The Hustler...
