Balabushka... "the quintessential apotheosis " of a career that launched an industry

Because the original had some sort of gator print leather IIRC. We weren't looking to match it identical, which is why these diamond are also done differently. JV

    Facebook issues

FB is built on for sale "groups". Most of those groups exist because someone got butt hurt in someone else's group. Imagine if everyone on AZ that has had an issue of some sort, said screw it, and started their own board. Oh wait.. there was an army of some sort many years ago.. There are a...

Unknown cue identification? Any help appreciated.

I mentioned Huebler because it had some Hubleresque elements. However, the cue is very generic. Keep in mind when you look at a cue, and you start to use shafts, bumpers, butt caps, weight bolts etc as benchmarks... you are making an assumption that they are original. All those parts, even the...

    Advice on selling ivory-inlayed cue.

Chop is correct. Plus do not believe everything you read on the internet. I have noticed that in forums where ivory laws are detrimental, that the wording is skewed to make it sound like there are times when ivory is OK to use. The actual PDF law on the final rule states very clearly you can not...

    Advice on selling ivory-inlayed cue.

You can sell it anywhere. Even if someone in a lockdown state purchased it, it would be on them. Same with selling out of a lock down state, you take your chances and you may win a prize. I would not risk trying to ship out of the country, that is illegal. As far as the value increase, depends...

    Joe balsis pool balls

After Joe passed, a gentleman named Richard Sluzalis helped her sell off Joe's pool and billiard memorabilia. This set of balls appear to be a set of Raschigs. Nice set of balls and a late 60's ball case is a nice touch. I do not think the balls are that old however. JV

    Refinish effect on cue value.

There is absolutely a line but I think it would even be lower than Schons. There are Schon collectors that would argue that an all original Schon should have a higher value. The Bella Sera example if 99% true. If I was a true collector with my principles, I would not buy that cue for my...

    Refinish effect on cue value.

I disagree and as far as your guitar example. If SRV modified HIS guitar, or a guitar he played, that is very different than Joe Shmoe restoring a Strat. To use your example if the Mosconi Bushka was refinished it SHOULD reduce the value by half. That is my opinion, and it is defies common sense...

    Refinish effect on cue value.

I see great answers I wish were true. I have been dealing for a long time and one of my pet peeves is that 50% should happen. But it does not. That is the truth. I have seen fully restored Balabushka's, with two brand new shafts, not by George, get sold for more than an all original with two...
