I'm no expert in the cue business. But if OB doesn't get into carbon fiber shafts they may be left in the dustbin of history. Goodbye to all the lathes and curing shaft wood (assuming they do)... someone at OB (and a number of other traditional cue companies) got their work cut out for them...

Ran across this company.. https://dragonplate.com/roll-wrapped-carbon-fiber-tapered-tubes. I don't know for sure if these would work for cue shaft blanks but it sure looks like they can, and at around $30. Likely they could make you custom tubes with a pro taper. Thought this might interest...

Dr Dave, any particular reason(s) you lost interest in creating an independent testing lab? It's pretty common in golf, though the independence part is a little questionable (or the JD Powers auto awards where every model seems to win something).

One of the best players (you could call him a pro) at the place I play has a large diameter tip on his small diameter cue, looks weird like a badly mushroomed tip. Says he likes it this way, and his results show he may be on to something.

Also think it's unlikely that the cost of a obtaining a patent (though it's probably a bit late to pursue that) would ever be paid back.

Can you cut a small piece of cloth hanging somewhere around the edge of the slate? From a small piece it's pretty obvious which side should be up, the up side is much smoother than the down and the down side's a bit fuzzy.
