    Expensive Cue Shooter

Just personal views but I believe (1) there are less crooks in pool halls these days; and (2) most people playing don't know anything about expensive cues. They're fine with a $200 cue with "overlays." In fact a lot of them don't know their cues have overlays. I take my pretty good cues...

Can we talk about Dale Perry cues?

Not sure about that. I gave one of my pool league teammates one of the eBay specials 12 or 13 years ago and it’s still going strong, with now-black Irish linen wrap. I thought they were built very solid.

Olhausen rattle, is this a good fix?

Thanks very much garzar. I know Mark; I didn't think he'd work on Olhausens. I'll contact him.

Olhausen rattle, is this a good fix?

Do any of you know a table mechanic in the Atlanta area who has experience in redoing Olhausen pocket facings? I'd like to get mine redone. Thanks.

    Past Pool Memories

As I now dimly recall (or think I recall) a lot of the words of wisdom in Mosconi's book were wrong. He knew how to play but wasn't too aware of how things happened on a pool table.

Help with info about Unique Customized McDermott with Customized It's George case?

I'd pass on it only because I don't think I'd do well as the "Hitman."

Help with info about Unique Customized McDermott with Customized It's George case?

I'd pass on the cue but would like to hang out with the original owner.

    Black Ferrules

That makes sense to me. When I was growing up in St. Louis in the 1960s the majority of cues of all types had black ferrules. I think most people got cues repaired and tips installed by AE Schmidt. They had a huge building near the river in South St. Louis.

❗Installing weird yellow square tips on cue shaft ❗

Square tips had never entered my mind, but they might actually be a lot easier to center on a ferrule before the glue sets; so they might actually be a good idea. You have to trim round tips so trimming off the corners of a square tip doesn't seem to be an issue. I think I like the idea!

3 things you would change about pool

Agreed up to a point. I know a lot of rich people who think pool is low class and wouldn’t walk into any pool room anywhere. Also I meant being willing to watch pro pool with sponsors who pay up big bucks and support upscale rooms all over the country like they do private golf courses.

    Pia Filler hates wood shafts

I met her at the Derby this year and I think she is one of the most beautiful and charming women I have ever seen. Please don't reply with any mean comments; she deserves praise from all of us.

3 things you would change about pool

    1. Somehow make rich people like pool as they do golf, tennis and Formula One. 2. Have a joint men's pro tour and women's televised pro tour with weekly televised tournaments like golf. One week men, the next week women. Make it as popular and lucrative as professional golf. 3. Get companies...

    My first tip install

I'm interested in getting a home lathe to do tips but I'm not a great DIYer and the whole idea may crash and burn after I try doing a few tips so I don't want to spend a lot. I looked on Amazon and am bewildered by the choices. Can someone recommend an Amazon or other website or Home...

Good things about buying a Viking or McDermott or [insert others here]: 1. They'll answer the phone when you call. 2. They'll respond to an email if you write. 3. Quality control is excellent. 4. If you pay, they'll send you a cue. 5. If anything ever goes wrong, they'll fix it for free right...

    RIP Joe Salazar

I had read about him over the years as both a great player and cue salesman. He was by himself at his booth at the Derby this year (no customers or browsers) and looked kinda' lonely so I took the opportunity to introduce myself and tell him that I had read a lot about him and knew he was a...

Have you ever visited a pool hall with really good house cues?

The Old Jaybird above is talking about the place I mentioned. Barley's Billiards!

Have you ever visited a pool hall with really good house cues?

Yes. There was an upscale room in the Atlanta suburbs in the '80s (I forgot the name) that had McDermott jointed cues, merry widow style (maybe D-1s, D-2s and D-3s) in like new shape that you could rent for $1,00 and use them as long as you were there. My memory has faded but I believe that if...

I believe Jerry Briesath defines it as a "beautiful throwing motion under the elbow."
