    Fatboy's Very Good Lawyer Advice

I just posted the following in the "Where's Cocobolo Cowboy" thread but I want to repeat this here too: Fatboy says: "I never take biz advice from a lawyer-that’s only 2nd worse than suicide." I'm not sure about the suicide part but the part before the dash is very wise thinking. I've been a...

    Where's Cocobolo Cowboy?

"" Fatboy says: "I never take biz advice from a lawyer-that’s only 2nd worse than suicide." Not sure about the suicide part but the part before the dash is very wise thinking. I've been a business lawyer for almost 50 years and one of the keys to my success was not giving business advice. Got...

    Pros Using Old Cues

With the hope of not provoking any "it's the Indian not the arrow" or "pros play with whatever cues their sponsors provide" comments, I'm curious about professional pocket billiards players who have used the same cue for many years. At least as of a few years ago, Thomas Engert had been using...

    Saving pool

The main concern I have is that there are so few pool rooms left in most cities I know of. When I moved to Atlanta in 1974 there were at least six nice rooms within a ten minute drive of my house. Now zero. And now there are only three first class pool rooms within a half hour drive of my...

Hardships of Professional Pool as a Career

I think a major reason that professional pool has not achieved the same level of success as professional golf and tennis and Formula One is that it does not generally appeal to rich people. Not sure how to fix this.

    It’s my bday 12/29

Happy Birthday Fatboy. I'm 73 and it seems like only a few years ago I was 56. Gotta' spend each day well. As many have seen a very talented young man (17 I think) was playing SVB recently and doing quite well when he pocketed the purple five ball BEFORE the pink four ball. SVB runs out with...

    Non-Matching Collar

I need some psychological counseling. I have a fancy cue as my player with a white joint. Lately I have become very happy shooting with a Jacoby Ultra Pro shaft and it fits on the cue in question but the collar on the shaft is black. So they don't match. The diameters match and the height of...

New opinion on potential table purchase

Way too much for that table. I would not want that table at any price.

Have you used carbon fiber and went back to wood?

I had a Pechauer carbon fiber shaft and didn't like the feel and hit, of course very subjective matters. Then I tried a Revo (didn't buy it --borrowed it for a while), and found the same issues. Sold the Pechauer and went back to wood. I like the feel, the sound and the hit of wood. Very...

    Mosconi Cup Side Pockets

Oops. Sorry for my mistake. Just saw a clear photo of side pockets and of course the pocket facings aren't backwards. I need a bigger TV. They still look very funky right?

    Mosconi Cup Side Pockets

I'm 73 and have been playing pool since I was 10 in various parts of the country and I have never once seen side pockets like those in this year's Mosconi Cup. The facing angles were backwards. Can some of you pool table physicists shed some light on those pockets? Thanks.

Do you have a strategy when playing a higher rated player?

Start sipping slowly on a Jack Daniels straight up. Keep my eye on the object ball when stroking. Make sure to stroke not poke. If there is a hard shot to make, look for a safety. Don't get anxious the guy I am playing is better than I am.

Olhausen tables, used in any tournaments these days?

PS Dr. Dave has the Olhausen that Robert Bryne used to have. Two pretty big names who own(ed) Olhausens.

Olhausen tables, used in any tournaments these days?

I have had an Olhausen for thirty five years and like it fine. Very infrequent rattles but they do occur. I have never seen a definitive answer to the question of why Olhausens do what they do and the corollary question of why doesn't Olhausen change the facings and the angles if they are...

Deluxe edition of The 'Encyclopedia' of Pool Hustlers available

Hi Cat and Everyone Else. I received my copy of the new Freddie/Cat Encyclopedia. It is awesome in every way. A lot of the pictures in the new version are now in color, and there is much new material and many new photos. If you liked the first one, this new one is even better. A round of...
