The quality of the cue in the pictures would have scared me off from the beginning. Ernie is a detailed craftsman, he could not of made that cue.

I have heard once the player leaves the table, its over. If the ball falls while the new shooter is coming to the table, ball gets spotted back. That's why when my opponents hangs a ball, I get my azz up right away!!
