    Memories of Larry Hubbard

I was very sad to learn that one of the true greats of American pool is no longer with us. I saw Larry Hubbard play many times, and have nothing but respect for him. The first time I saw him play was at a tournament in Burlington, Iowa. I saw him give Danny Jones the 8 ball in the practice room...

    Tips on Polishing/Waxing your Cue.

Cue Maintainance I feel like sharing what I use..........it is a little different. for cleaning my shafts, and conditioning them....I use a product made by Gibson guitars called guitar honey. It is an awesome product. I use a small amount on a soft cloth and then buff all of it out. For the...

    Unknown "monster" players

Weldon Weldon Rogers was one of the best players ever on the old Valleys with the big apple. He also played jam up one handed. One of his side kicks, James Christopher was also a good player. But, if you ask me, there were plenty of good road players back then that stayed under the radar. It...

    Jimmy Moore, Irving Crane

Jimmy's stroke Thanks for all the comments, guys. It really was different back then, eh? Per Jimmy's stroke; He used the slip stroke when he really had to draw one. On his backstroke he would (while he was taking the stroke) let his hand slip down to the very end of the butt, and then follow...

    Jimmy Moore, Irving Crane

Hey, fellas. I wanted to post a great video of my main mentor when I was a younger man, Jimmy Moore. I first saw Jimmy play in 1974, and moved to Albuquerque soon after, so I could just be around the pool scene there. I think Jimmy was maybe 62 or 63 when I first saw him, and probably 65 or so...

    New glasses

Billiards Spectacles Very interesting. I have a question. I recently got a new RX.....and I told the optometrist I wanted a pair I could use for pool. He gave me an RX for two different pairs. One for my nearsightedness. And one, which he referred to as being for intermediate distance...

    Tip diameter comparisons?

See....I'm not the only one. My sentiments, exactly. Jimmy Caras once said you would have better cue ball control with a tip the size of a dime. Although I don't fault, nor do I judge players using thinner shafts, it is my opinion that almost all players have more accuracy using a bigger shaft...

    Tip diameter comparisons?

Tip Diameter I posted on another thread about this subject. I have been playing for 40 years. Over that time, I've learned much watching better players. Many years ago, most of the pros were playing with 13mm or 13&1/4mm. A few really good players, including Tony Anigoni, played bigger....like...

Break Cue Shaft Size / Playing Cue Shaft size

break shaft size You know, I don't understand how most of you cats play with such small shafts. My playing shaft is usually 13.5 mm. I used to play with a 14 mm when I played bar pool with the big cue ball. It is about control. It is so much easier to hit stun shots, and the like, with a bigger...

    Alex/Scott Match

I watched a little of the one pocket last night, and young Alex was clearly out playing Scott Frost. I have not seen anything posted about the final tally, but it's my understanding that the Lion won. Can anyone confirm????

The cue you wish you had back

The Cues I've Gone Through Anyone that knows me knows how many cues I've gone through. Back in the glory days of Joss East, when Dan Janes still had Tim Skruggs in his shop, I probably bought ten of them. Bought, sold, bought, sold. My focus then turned to Tad......I had three of them. They...

    WTB Break Shaft

I need a break shaft. So, for those of you that may have one or be able to make one for me.........the joint is 5/16 X 18, flat face like a Meucci. I want the tip diameter to be 13 & 1/2 mm and a pro taper......not a conical taper like on some of the break cues. Let me know what ya got.

    Share your Ronnie Allen Story

Thought maybe we could all share a few memories about this colorful character. I crossed paths with Ronnie a few times in Los Angeles, but my Ronnie story took place at a tournament in Burlington, Iowa.....probably 1977 or 1978. It was my first big tournament experience, and I went up there to...

    Ronnie Allen Has Passed

Goodbye Ronnie. Ronnie Allen was one of the hardest playing guys ever. He was sharp as a tack, and had a killer instinct that very few players possessed. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

    Guiseppe = poor quality case.

Guisseppe case I have a Guisseppe........2x4. Although it is not as durable as leather.....it is a good case. I always take good care of my equipment, and so I do with the case....For someone that doesn't beat the shit out of their stuff.....these cases are fine.

99-ball run - *world record filmed* on a 10ft table - by max eberle

Run on 5x10 Nice, Max. It takes a little more power to play on a 5x10. Very challenging. I used to play on an old AMF 5x10 in New Mexico when I was a younger man. I always marveled at how easy a 9 footer was after I practiced on the bigger one. Could pool be going back to this bigger playing...
