    WTB cue lathe, recommendations welcomed

You have your cnc for any of that work. If you have the floor room and capabilities , 36 or 40" bed metal lathe and put a good DRO on it. You will thank yourself in the long run. Resell value is much better also...imo. With your cnc and and that lathe you can do almost anything in the cue...

    Best epoxy for assembly

tg, "No epoxy" does not mean "no adhesive". I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion by what I put in print? As pointed out by some keen, eagle eyed individual(s), there is a very common and well known adhesive that I use on my ferrules. I probably have a little different theory and...

    Best epoxy for assembly

Or NOT using an epoxy at all on a ferrule will guarantee you a clean application and look. You can't slip fit your ferrules tho. You have to actually do a little bit of work on them. ;) You also need two clean, flat faces to ensure a "no ring" look.

    Best epoxy for assembly

Black linen phenolic is the best. If you have the correct stuff! All those other plastics for collars have their own inherent problems.

Reverse tenon ferrule on a wood shaft

Poor idea imo....hard to find a material equal to or less than the weight of just maple. True this similar style is used on CF shafts but think about it and why it used that way. It is also used on CF shafts in a much different fashion. People in the "low deflection" community group rant and...

Joint protectors - what exactly do they protect?

Think about for just a second..........OK, benefit of doubt, make it a minute. It's not what they do.....it's what they don't do if you're not using them!

    Amazing Dennis Dieckman Cue

Only guessing on the date, but a good guess would be pre '90s build or very early 90's. All of his inlays (male & female) were done by hand on a Gorton pantograph. 99.99% sure the dark brown is Wenge. Dennis believed this wood was a highly desirable cue wood for playability/stability and looks...

Does your purple heart stay purple

From my experience, not only PH but many other woods (most all woods) will darken over time. As some have experienced, it can darken beyond a point that makes it hard to identify the wood by color/grain appearance alone. wood-database.com has a good amount of information on this subject. A...

    Coring wood question

It's an extra step but the end results are a superior method to slamming everything together on a 30" rod and filling the gaps with gorilla glue. Food for thought....

    Bluegrass vanished during transportation (USPS)

I have not read thru this whole thread, however, I will reiterate this again for the shippers of billiard cues. DO NOT ship cues in round tubes, cardboard or plastic alone. DO NOT ship cues in only a triangle box stuffed with bubble wrap. Either of these are an absolute no-no in my book. A 3...

    Ebony question

That's exactly what it looks like. Generally comes from the SE Asia area, Cambodia, Laos, I believe. Good stuff. Used in a few cues I've built. Has an endless variety of figure with the black and yellow (white).

    Ebony question

Nice ebony article. I did notice there was no mention of Madagascar ebony (Diospyros perrieri) though. Maybe because it is listed on CITES Appendix II and no longer commercially available.

    Ebony question

It may be "boring" to some but natural color, coal black ebony commands a premium in some circles of collecting cues. Malagasy ebony, formally known as Madagascar ebony, imo is the finest and one of the best workable ebony in the world. No longer commercially available and can generally only...

    Ebony question

As mentioned the majority of ebony seen on the market today generally has some form of brown coloring in it somewhere. It is rare to find solid black ebony unless you know where to look and are willing to get your wallet out to pay double or in some cases triple of the going rate for common...

SDJCR1212 SVJCR1212 I'll put a little peanut butter on the spoon for you. These are the 2 holders that are a main stay on my lathe. The R is for right hand. You can change it to an L if you want a left hand cutter. The same insert will fit either R or L. Also, the 1212 is the shank size...

    shrpen tool bits

Don't have any pics available at this time but if you do a search here I believe some ideas and info should pop up. Just get the inserts that are designed for cutting aluminum and soft metals like brass and such. There are a variety of shapes and cutters and holders. Just make sure you match...

    Vintage cue Wood ID

It may very well be an off shore thing. From what I can see the construction method and material selection to me resembles a "Rich" product. Which Rich would be the question. No sure if that method was copied and by which one or whom?

Use an insert cutter set-up. You will never need to nor have the desire to sharpen another tool again.

WHAT IS AN "L" CHANNEL VENNEER ?

Let me try to help you understand. First you need to know Tony, builder of Black Boar cues. If you have never talked with him I would highly suggest you make an appt to sit down and buy him a beer. Knifing in points has been a terminology he has used for years. Basically doing "recuts" for...
