Thoughts on purpleheart insert for shaft threads?

If you've never attempted threading PH you should try it. If you're having trouble threading maple and making those threads last, good luck. Maple is one of the easiest woods to thread. There are cues over a 100 years old with good solid maple threads. The other thing I contest is how an...

    Lathe lubricant

Bostik brand has some dry lubes that are sold in a lot of woodworking stores that personally I would be more inclined to use (and have used) and feel more comfortable using around my woods. That being said, I don't own one of the aftermarket type cue lathes so I'm using something totally...

    Lathe lubricant

Silicone = Bad in the shop imo. If by chance it gets on any woods you may have problems with finishing. It may show up right away or down the road with adhesion problems.

    Purchased as an "unknown"...

Years ago I was approached by a gentleman in northern Mich that had been purchasing blanks from Joel for years (pre 2000) and building cues that looked very similar to this. He had said Joel was no longer selling just the blanks and asked me if I would be able to build him some similar blanks...

how is the air applied on your gun drills? I see the holes at the cutting end but not sure how one can hook the air at the other end.

Help with thoughts about an old Antique billiards cue?

If the cue wood is stable (no cracks or loose parts), do nothing to it except a possible new tip.

    Elephant ear wrap

Those don't look like ear leather I've seen. Possibly 2 things.... They could be genuine but from a side hide panel. or They are stamped leather and not real ele. or I could be wrong on both, but something looks off.

Can Anybody Make Me An Ebony/Bone Cue?

Camel bone is considered dense and similar to ele ivory so I've read. Looks long and large enough for pt pieces. Never seen any in cues nor have I ever worked with any but I may have to now. Not sure what problems there may be with the feds if they were looking at it.

    The old Viking "Super Joint"

    An individualized gimmick?

Can Anybody Make Me An Ebony/Bone Cue?

Evidently the camels don't mind. Seems to be plenty of bone to go around for now.

    The old Viking "Super Joint"

Thanks for double roasting my brain. 🤯

    The old Viking "Super Joint"

Forgive me for my brain asking WHY? Seems a gimmick connection for sure. It reminds me of the question surrounding the Indy car wheels where the single lug nut never cross threads when the torque wrench is applied?

IS THIS SOMETHING NEW (never seen 3/8x10 quik-release)

A good woman is always so demanding! ;)

IS THIS SOMETHING NEW (never seen 3/8x10 quik-release)

It takes one soooooooo long to twist that shaft ALL the way down to lock it on the butt. I am glad they finally have developed a cure! 😐

CF shaft build, insert thread question

+1 However, with that being the thought. There are many that got hood winked into believing they are all that. To the OP...I suspect the faces of your joint are amiss (or a mess) which ever you prefer. My guess is one or possibly both faces are convex and not fully locking. If this is the case...

    ~~cocobolo & curly maple 25 points~~

I guess my view is a bit different on this subject. A veneer is a veneer. It doesn't matter how it is made, it's still a veneer. I know many call this style recuts. And it is...a recut veneer. A veneer is described as a thin layer (could be of different types of material depending on the...

    ~~cocobolo & curly maple 25 points~~

I wasn't going to say anything from when I I first looked at this post. I'm sure the math is just a little skewed. However doing this style of cue on every pointed cue I build I certainly understand the exacting precision that is involved in a build such as this. If it's a 4pt cue then 12...

Anyone clean their tips on the carpet before putting it back in the case?

IMO disrespectful to room and the owner that is supplying you the place to play. But I guess that's just how I was raised. I've always walked into the restroom and grabbed a paper towel and if none, a couple bar napkins have always worked just fine. Then dispose of in a garbage can where all...

I’m recently ordered a custom Kielwood shaft and have some questions about my customization options and how each will affect the playability.

Not really sure how to read into this but if you're referring to me as a stoner it's not appreciated.
