Do you use an open or closed bridge? Mix of both?

For starters, that's me at 5 years old and thanks, I hope to ward off all male admirers.

Do you use an open or closed bridge? Mix of both?

FTR, everyone uses an open bridge from time to time. You have to if you want to bridge over a ball, perform a jump/masse or stretch the length of the table. These are pretty much the only times I use an open bridge. That said, I know some great players that use an open bridge far more often...

Should a good player be able to adjust to any type of pool equipment?

The short answer is no, they can't always adjust. The top notch player has an arsenal of shots available to him/her. The worse the equipment gets, the fewer shots they have available to them. Take, for example, draw and follow. Let's say the cloth has gotten so worn that any...

What is your opinion on Pro players that pattern rack the balls?

Well, you're going to be facing a few challenges here. For one, yes. Players that pattern rack are racking favorably for themselves when it's rack-your-own and they're also racking unfavorably for their opponents when it's rack-for-your-opponent. So, how do you know when a player is racking...

Why get so caught up on fundamentals?

I think this is an extreme example but layoffs are definitely more common among non-professionals. We have lives. We take long breaks and don't always get a lot of time to practice. Developing bad habits happens. I don't think the entire forum is necessarily stuck in first gear, per se. We...

What is your opinion on Pro players that pattern rack the balls?

That is part of the problem. Those that pattern rack are going to rack favorably for themselves or they're going to rack unfavorably for their opponents. Pick your poison. I think some of the problems could be solved if there were some standards like, the 2 and 3 must: 1. sit directly behind...

What is your opinion on Pro players that pattern rack the balls?

I wasn't looking at it like two separate options but instead, two categories. Every time you pick a rule from one category, you should have to pick a non-relevant rule from the other category. Like, you can pattern rack but it can't be winner breaks. Or, you can use templates but you have to...

What is your opinion on Pro players that pattern rack the balls?

I think lately, breaking rules have favored the breaker too much. It's become too common for players to be able to rack for themselves with a template and break where ever they choose. Given the fact that nobody ever gets called out for pattern racking, it's no surprise that everyone is doing...

    Why 8 Ball ?

My reasons for why 8ball is popular: Bars & Bangers 1. Rules work well with coin operated table 2. Utilizes all 15 balls (novices get their money's worth) 3. Has the perception of fairness (both players must pocket 8 balls to win) 4. Easy to understand Competitions 5. Bar Boxes are easy to...

    Whats the call????

I agree. The fact that it enters one pocket and exits another makes this a somewhat different scenario than what the rules are currently designed for. In my opinion, the call should go to the shooter for the reason stated above, because common sense says so and because when in doubt, the call...

Your opinion on preparing for the big shot...

I like this a lot. In 9ball, it's very common for the 9ball to stay in the same spot throughout the entire game. I'd say at least half the time, it stays right there. It's a huge benefit to feel comfortable shooting this shot firm and taking a path that you know will never scratch.

Your opinion on preparing for the big shot...

In last year's BCAPL Open division, I had a pretty good run going for a while but much of it was possible because of a hill-hill game I won early on. I was pretty much toast. I had one ball on the table, my opponent was shooting and had plenty of options. What's more, he was a solid player...

Do you play the table or your opponent?

From time to time, it's mandatory that you consider the strength of your opponent. Anyone that tells you otherwise is kidding themselves. For 9ball, for example, pushes require you to evaluate your opponent's strength and if you're significantly better, offer you a great opportunity to create...

What else do you do aside from pool?

Off and on, I enjoy weightlifting but recently have taken up running. I'm participating in my first half marathon this Spring. I smoked for 25 years so finishing the race will be a huge accomplishment for me. As well, I'm married. My wife and I love spending time together with our two rescue...

Money taken off the calcutta without any prior announcement, is that normal?

I agree. I think the TD here went out of their way to show exactly where the money went. As well, it is standard practice for the TD to receive a percentage of the calcutta. For those that think this is a lot of money for a single day's work, I should remind you, the TD probably started...
