Winner winner chicken dinner. Wanna take the liberty of explaining the advantages to this shot?

How Would You Play This? Safety Time

So, this situation came up yesterday in a league match that allows coaching. My teammate had ball-in-hand and her opponent was on two fouls. Feel free to post your approach to safeing here along with an explanation on why. I'm sure the better players will see it immediately but there's...

    Is Pool a Sport?

Agree with everything you said and I knew about the Olympic part although I don't think there is a very large movement currently underway by the BCA like there was in the past. The truth is, until we are seeking inclusion into a larger sports event, why does it matter how pool is defined? Call...

    Is Pool a Sport?

I think, under this definition, pool would definitely be a sport then. It's not an exerting sport like running can be but there is clearly a physical element. Balls are moving around and the player sets them in motion. The problem is, under this definition, some video games could also be...

    Playing Consistently

Part of what makes pool so frustrating is, you learn through trial and error. Much of your improvement, until now, has been through utilizing methods that worked and dismissing methods that didn't. This puts your game in a constant state of flux. As you continue to improve and play more, some...

What is your goal when you push out?

This is just wrong. I'm sorry but this doesn't help you. The most winning is going to happen when you improve your chances of regaining control of the table. I wouldn't want to give my opponent control no matter who I'm playing.

US Mosconi team has a higher Fargo rating than Europe

I still think it will be interesting to now have a statistical evaluation of each player. Yes, if history is any indication of future performance, Europe is favored but I still enjoy having something more than a hunch.

What is your goal when you push out?

All of this is great advice. I would like to reiterate, pushing means you are inherently likely to foul and/or lose the game. You're pushing to eliminate the likelihood of fouling and bring the game to a coin-flip scenario. There's no advantage to be had. I've seen players push to jump shots...

US Mosconi team has a higher Fargo rating than Europe

Yes and FTR, I'm a big fan of FargoRate. I think you guys are doing a great job bringing statistics to pool in a way that's easy to understand.

US Mosconi team has a higher Fargo rating than Europe

I think the only thing the Fargo Ratings show here is that both teams possess the needed firepower. That said, the Mosconi Cup has proven that success is not just about that.

    is jayson shaw overrated?

I live in New York. If there's one thing that's good for, I get the opportunity to play some of the world's best at our local tournaments. In tournament play alone, I've played US Open winners, World Champions, Hall of Famers and countless guys with reputations for having a big game. I played...

    is jayson shaw overrated?

The first time I saw Shaw was a couple years ago at a Joss event. Even then, your statement is true. He's a GREAT shotmaker but that doesn't explain everything about his game. Because of his shotmaking, he has the luxury of playing position routes that you don't often see. Regarding the OP...

The interesting thing about Karen Corr...

It seems every single time Corr does well in a men's event, there's someone providing reasons other than her talent. How many men's events does she need to finish high in before this gets old?

    How many hours a day

I think you can see a whole range of responses from most professionals but on the whole, they're probably getting to the room near daily but only a handful of truly long days of work. Once you're in gear, the goal is to keep the muscle memory going which often requires a daily refresher. If...

Can Fargo Ratings be more Accurate with Dr. Dave's TDF Statistic?

Right now, FargoRate appears to be only one statistic pulling data from across several games/table sizes. I honestly don't know what they're compiling but for all we know, they could be recording this information too (likely). If they are, maybe one day we'll see FargoRatings for all scenarios...

Given Corr's performance in events like Turning Stone, I think her chances are better than you think. You can review her resume at men's events, it's pretty impressive. Of course, her chances could be as high as 5% (not saying they are) and it's likely she won't prove me right. The hardest...

    US Open 2015 Bookmaker favorites

I'm not saying I agree with how the odds were dispersed. In many instances, I don't understand the bookie's logic. All I'm saying is how odds work and how he dispersed the odds is pretty sound. Yes, if all players are equal, chances of winning are 127:1. That said, it's obvious that the...

October 20th, Richmond, Greenleaf's Pool Room: Iceman v. Eagle Eye

I understand what you're saying. Certainly shot selection is skewed when there's no penalty for missing. That said, a 200 ball run is a 200 ball run no matter what the circumstances are. But I do agree, in a game, when you have someone shooting back at you, it's worth more.

    US Open 2015 Bookmaker favorites

The way the odds are dispersed actually isn't horrible. The bookie is basically saying someone in the top 15 on his list will win so he's giving long odds for everyone else. They also add-up pretty cleanly to 1.72 which is probably the best odds I've seen posted on azb. Yeah, given most bets...
