You could also try Masur/Karelian Birch, Hickory burl, or Black Ash burl. Gorgeous woods, but again, difficult to find without voids, knots, inclusions, etc.

The handle looks like a highly figured Olive wood. It's very pretty, but finding a piece without inclusions can be difficult.

I've tried the Carbon Fiber shafts, and the Kielwood shafts. The KW "felt" better to me than the CF...Both the CF and KW were a little stiff for my liking, but I preferred the Kielwood to the Carbon.
